SCAN is a cursed shader pack for Minecraft Java by LoLip_p, running on Iris and OptiFine. It strips the world down to near darkness and shows it only through a scanning pulse, built to feel oppressive. It is client-side only.

How the scan works
Every 2 seconds an update bar sweeps from the top of the screen to the bottom, lighting the surrounding space just enough to orient yourself. Between sweeps, visibility is poor by design.
The idea is inspired by Scanner Sombr, and the pack names LiDAR as its ideological heir. Modrinth tags it atmosphere, cursed and potato, and it needs no other mods.
Installing SCAN
- 1.Install Iris or OptiFine, following the shader install guide if you have not set one up.
- 2.Get the pack's zip file from Modrinth.
- 3.Place the zip in the shaderpacks folder inside your .minecraft folder.
- 4.Launch Minecraft and open Options, then Video Settings, then Shaders.
- 5.Choose SCAN.

The trade-off
The pack is one effect done thoroughly, with no presets or lighting options described. Expect a light load, since Modrinth files it under potato, but treat that as a tag and not a promise for your hardware.

How do I install the SCAN shader?
Install Iris or OptiFine, place SCAN's zip file in the shaderpacks folder inside .minecraft, then open Options, Video Settings, Shaders in Minecraft and select SCAN. No other mods are required by the pack's builds.
Does SCAN work with Iris and OptiFine?
Yes. Both Iris and OptiFine have builds listed, and neither needs additional dependencies. Pick whichever loader you already use for your Minecraft Java setup.
Does SCAN work on Minecraft Bedrock?
No. SCAN is a Java shader pack, and Iris and OptiFine are Java mods that Bedrock cannot run. Bedrock uses a different shader format, so this pack will not load there.
Is SCAN meant to be playable in normal survival?
It is meant to be oppressive. The world is almost black and a scanning sweep every 2 seconds lights the area briefly, so visibility is limited by design. It fits horror and atmosphere play better than building.
