How Amplified Nether makes the Nether bigger
The extra 128 blocks of height give existing Nether terrain room to actually rise and fall instead of hugging a flat ceiling. Amplified Nether uses that space to bring back the tall Nether mountains shown in the original Nether Update trailer but never shipped, and 3D biome blending means a single build column can pass through several terrain types instead of snapping between flat biome borders.

Data pack or mod, picking the right build
Both builds change the same terrain. The plain data pack has no dependencies and drops into any vanilla world or server, which is the right choice for a survival world without a mod loader. The mod build targets Fabric, Forge, NeoForge, or Quilt and suits a modded install where a data pack is inconvenient to manage alongside other mods, or a modpack that only accepts mods. The two builds are not perfectly in step: the mod build is on v1.2.16 (Java Edition 1.21 through 26.2, published July 2026), while the data pack build is still on the previous release, v1.2.15 (Java Edition 1.20 through 26.2). The data pack build trails the mod build by one release but currently reaches one version lower on the floor.
Installing Amplified Nether
- 1.Download the data pack .zip or the mod .jar for your loader from the Modrinth project page.
- 2.Data pack: place the .zip in the world's `datapacks/` folder and run `/reload`, or restart the world.
- 3.Mod: place the .jar in the `mods/` folder alongside Fabric Loader, Forge, NeoForge, or Quilt, then launch normally.
- 4.Generate new Nether chunks to see the taller terrain. Already-explored chunks keep their vanilla shape.
Multiplayer and server use
Amplified Nether needs to run on whichever machine generates the Nether's terrain. How do I install Amplified Nether?

No. Amplified Nether and Incendium both rewrite Nether terrain generation, and running them together causes conflicts. Pick one Nether overhaul per world. Amplified Nether is generally compatible with non-worldgen Nether mods, such as Better Nether, since those add content rather than reshaping terrain.
Do I need a new world for Amplified Nether to work?
You need a fresh Nether, not necessarily a fresh Overworld. Amplified Nether only shapes chunks that have not generated yet, so adding it to an already-explored Nether leaves old flat terrain sitting next to new tall terrain at a visible seam. Starting a new world, or at least resetting the Nether dimension, gives the cleanest result.
