GT New Horizons is a large, progressive kitchen-sink Forge modpack for Java, balanced around GregTech. Over eleven years of development have produced thousands of recipe tweaks, a questbook of more than 3500 quests and custom mods written for the pack. CurseForge files it under Tech, Exploration, Magic, Multiplayer and Quests.
Loaders and versions
- Forge: Minecraft 1.7.10.
What the pack changes
GregTech's tiers act as the ages of the pack, and content from other mods is slotted into a fitting tier so the whole list feels like one designed experience. You start in the stone age, move to steam machines, then electricity, then leave for other planets and dimensions.
- Technology: GregTech cables convert EU to RF, so mixed energy systems stay compatible. Forestry, IndustrialCraft2, Railcraft, Applied Energistics and Draconic Evolution sit alongside it.
- Magic: Thaumcraft carries custom Thaumonomicon pages for Blood Magic and Witchery. Bosses in the Twilight Forest gate magical progress.
- Mining: ore generates in large local veins, and key materials live in the Nether, the End, the Twilight Forest and on other planets through Galacticraft.
- Exploration: Realistic World Gen and Biomes O'Plenty shape the terrain, with rogue-like dungeons and villages you can trade with or take over.
Progression and pacing
The questbook explains what each step needs, so you lean less on tutorials, and its entries can fill in NEI searches for you. Survival is deliberately harsh. Hardcore darkness makes nights pitch black, Spice of Life punishes repeating the same food, and strong mobs can kill quickly without a plan.
Installation
The pack's README points to the Installing and Migrating page on the GTNH wiki, which is the place to start, especially when moving an existing world between releases. For general steps on importing a pack through a launcher, see how to install a modpack.

Questions about GT New Horizons.
3 questions
Is GT New Horizons good for beginners?
It is built as an expert-mode pack, and early nights are rough because hardcore darkness blacks out unlit areas. The questbook helps by stating what each step needs, so you can progress without constant tutorials, but expect a long, demanding climb through GregTech tiers.
How many quests does GT New Horizons have?
The README counts more than 3500 quests. They guide you through the mod list, explain what is required to progress, and let you click displayed items to save typing into NEI.
Which Java release does GT New Horizons run on?
It runs on 1.7.10 with Forge. The pack is built around that older mod ecosystem, and CurseForge lists no other loader for its current releases.
