Amendments

Amendments reworks existing vanilla blocks with cauldron liquid mixing, hanging lanterns, stacked cakes and skulls, and carpets on stairs. It adds almost no new blocks and is highly configurable.

Amendments is a configurable amendments mod for Minecraft Java that tweaks existing vanilla blocks instead of adding new ones. It runs on Fabric, NeoForge and Forge, and its files are tagged for both sides. It also folds in Carpeted Stairs, Better Lilypads, Better Jukeboxes and some Supplementaries features, so those standalone mods are no longer needed.

What it changes

The aim is better function and visuals for blocks you already use. Cauldrons get the biggest rework. They store any liquid, mix potions and dyes, and craft the item in your hand with the liquid they hold when you click. Cauldrons with a heat source below can boil, and boiling water turns thrown ingredients into stews.

  • Lanterns play a held-in-hand animation, hang on walls with pendulum physics, and work with any lantern.
  • Hanging signs hold items on both faces and swing on walls. Banner patterns on them need Supplementaries.
  • Jukeboxes show the spinning disc they are playing, including modded discs.
  • Carpets sit on slabs and stairs. Cakes stack two high and vanilla cakes can be rotated.
  • Skulls stack in any combination and take candles, which leave a wax overlay.
  • Lecterns holding a Book and Quill gain font and ink colour buttons, and they work with hoppers.
  • Lilypads accept any block on top, and brewing stands tint their bottles by contents.

Installing and configuring

Pick the file that matches your loader and Minecraft release, then put it and its required libraries in the mods folder. The mod installation guide covers the steps. Features can be switched off individually, and the wiki's Customization section explains how. Datapacks can add custom cauldron recipes.

Questions about Amendments.

4 questions

Can I brew potions in cauldrons with Amendments?

No. Potion brewing in cauldrons was deliberately left out, for the same reason Mojang left it out. Cauldrons use a liquid mixing mechanic instead. They can hold any liquid, mix potions and dyes, and craft the item in your hand when you right-click.

Why is my cauldron water white and my brewing stand red?

A resource pack is overriding the mod's textures. Open the resource pack screen and make sure the Moonlight generated pack and Mod Assets sit above the vanilla pack. Once they have higher priority, the water and brewing stand colours should render correctly.

Do I still need Carpeted Stairs or Better Lilypads?

No. Amendments began as a merge of several of the same author's mods, including Carpeted Stairs, Better Lilypads and Better Jukeboxes, plus some Supplementaries features. Their functions are built in, so you do not need to install those standalone mods alongside it.

How do I turn off an Amendments feature?

Almost every feature is configurable. The Customization section of the Amendments wiki explains how to disable or tweak a specific feature, and the project also points players to its Discord for help with settings.
