Cauldron Concrete Powder is a mod and datapack by Stoupy51 that turns concrete powder into hardened concrete when you drop it into a water cauldron. It ships for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, plus a plain datapack for anyone who prefers no loader. It must be present on the host side and is optional for players who join.

Loaders and versions

  • Fabric, Forge and Quilt: Minecraft 1.15 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies.
  • NeoForge: Minecraft 1.21 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies.

What it does

Toss concrete powder into a cauldron holding water and the item hardens in place. There is no need to set blocks down and wait for them to touch water. The creator built it after a community request and tuned it for speed, and states that it runs faster than the equivalent VanillaTweaks datapack.

By default the check runs only when a player has dropped something, which is the cheapest way to do it. That is also the trade-off. Powder that arrives some other way is ignored unless you change the setting below.

Installation

  1. 1.Mod route. Put the mod's .jar made for your loader in the mods folder, then start the loader's profile. The guides on installing mods on Java and Forge and NeoForge cover the loader setup.
  2. 2.Host the world with it installed. Joining players can leave it out.

Configuration and custom recipes

From 1.6.0 you can make the pack convert every concrete powder item that lands in a water cauldron. That covers items carried by water streams, fired from droppers or shaken loose from falling blocks. Run this once, and it is saved with the world. To undo it, reset the same score.

  • Enable with scoreboard players set #always_check cauldron_concrete_powder.config 1
  • Disable with scoreboard players reset #always_check cauldron_concrete_powder.config

Other datapacks can add their own cauldron recipes through the function tag #cauldron_concrete_powder:signals/dry_concrete. Fabric mods can ship the same files in their data folder to hook in without conflicts.

Questions about Cauldron Concrete Powder.

4 questions

Does Cauldron Concrete Powder work on multiplayer?

Yes. It is required on the host side, so whoever runs the world must install it. Players who join do not need it. The datapack route works the same way, since the logic runs in the world itself.

Should I use the mod or the datapack?

Both do the same job, and neither needs any other mod or library. The mod files suit a setup that already runs Fabric, Forge, NeoForge or Quilt. The plain datapack suits a world with no loader, so nothing has to be installed first. Whoever hosts the world needs it, while joining players can skip it.

Why does powder from a dropper or water stream not harden?

By default only items a player has dropped are checked. Since 1.6.0 you can run the #always_check scoreboard command to convert every powder item that lands in a water cauldron, at the cost of a check every second.

Can I add my own cauldron recipes?

Yes. Another datapack or Fabric mod can register a function on the dry_concrete function tag. It checks for a custom item and swaps it for a hardened one, so any item can behave like concrete powder.
