FTB Chunks is the FTB Team's chunk-claiming and mapping mod for Minecraft Java. A player or team claims chunks to stop other players from breaking or placing blocks inside them, keeps machines and farms running while offline with force-loading, and tracks the world on a full-screen map with waypoints and death markers. It ships as two separate CurseForge projects, one for NeoForge and one for Fabric, and runs on both the client, for the map, and the server, for claiming.
Claiming, force-loading, and the built-in map
Claiming runs through FTB Teams: create or join a team, then open the claimed-chunks map and left-click a chunk to claim it or right-click to release it. Claimed chunks block other players from breaking or placing inside them unless they are added as allies, and allies who add you back can share map data with you. Shift-clicking a claimed chunk toggles force-loading, which keeps that chunk simulated even when nobody is standing in it, useful for automated farms or machines that need to keep running while everyone is offline.
- Right-click anywhere on the map to drop a waypoint, and right-click an existing waypoint or death marker to edit or delete it.
- FTB Ranks, an optional dependency, can cap how many chunks each rank is allowed to claim or force-load.
- Claim and force-load limits are set by the server admin, so a low or disabled cap on a given server is a server setting, not a mod limitation.
Installing FTB Chunks on Fabric or NeoForge
FTB Chunks exists as two separate CurseForge listings rather than one cross-loader page. FTB Chunks (NeoForge) has been downloaded more than 129 million times and its listing still carries older Forge-tagged builds going back to Minecraft 1.20.1. FTB Chunks (Fabric) is the separately maintained Fabric project, with over 12 million downloads of its own. Install NeoForge or Fabric first, matching your pack's loader, then add the FTB Chunks jar built for that loader.
Dependencies and version support
FTB Chunks depends on Architectury API, FTB Library, and FTB Teams on both loaders, plus Fabric API on the Fabric build. FTB Ranks is an optional dependency for rank-based claim limits. As of FTB Chunks 1902.4.0, deeper integration with KubeJS, FTB Ranks or LuckPerms, Waystones, and Game Stages needs the separate FTB XMod Compat mod rather than working out of the box.
- Required on NeoForge: Architectury API, FTB Library (NeoForge), FTB Teams (NeoForge).
- Required on Fabric: Architectury API, Fabric API, FTB Library (Fabric), FTB Teams (Fabric).
- Optional on both loaders: FTB Ranks, for rank-based claim and force-load caps.
The mod's source is visible on GitHub, but FTB's license keeps it all rights reserved, with no redistribution permission granted. Download it from the official CurseForge listing for your loader rather than a third-party mirror, and check FTB's own documentation for the full command and configuration reference before turning on claims on a shared server.
Questions about FTB Chunks.
5 questions
How do I install FTB Chunks?
Install NeoForge or Fabric first, then download the FTB Chunks build for that loader from its CurseForge listing, along with Architectury API, FTB Library, and FTB Teams. Drop all of the jars into your mods folder on both the client and the server, since the mod's map runs client-side and its claiming and force-loading run server-side.
Does FTB Chunks work with Fabric, or only NeoForge?
Both. FTB Chunks ships as two separate CurseForge projects rather than one cross-loader listing: FTB Chunks (NeoForge), with over 129 million downloads, and FTB Chunks (Fabric), a separately maintained project with over 12 million downloads of its own.
What other mods does FTB Chunks need?
Architectury API, FTB Library, and FTB Teams are required on both loaders, and Fabric also needs Fabric API. FTB Ranks is an optional add-on that lets a server cap how many chunks each rank can claim or force-load.
Which Minecraft version does FTB Chunks support?
As of the September 2026 builds, both the NeoForge and Fabric listings publish current releases for 1.21.1 and for the newer 26.1, 26.1.1, and 26.1.2 line under Minecraft's year-drop versioning. The NeoForge listing also keeps older Forge-tagged builds back to 1.20.1.
Does FTB Chunks work with Waystones or KubeJS?
Not directly. As of FTB Chunks 1902.4.0, integration with KubeJS, FTB Ranks or LuckPerms, Waystones, and Game Stages needs the separate FTB XMod Compat mod installed alongside it.
