Xaero's Map Server Utils gives administrators a small set of functions that restrict what players see in Xaero's map mods. It targets competitive play, where an entity radar or cave mode on the minimap is an unfair edge. It runs on Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, and it must be installed on the server. Players' clients do not need it.

The restrictions apply to players running Xaero's Minimap and its world map companion. The creator's page points to the fair-play section of that mod's documentation for how the mechanism works.

Loaders and versions

  • Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt: Minecraft 1.16 to 26.2. The newest build needs no dependencies.

Commands

  • `/function xaero:fairxaero` disables cave mode (world map included) and the entity radar.
  • `/function xaero:nominimap` disables the minimap completely.
  • `/function xaero:resetxaero` resets all system message flags.
  • `/function xaero:xaerowmnetherisfair` keeps world map cave mode working in the Nether while the minimap stays in fair-play mode.

Players are told which command an administrator used. Add `silent/` after `xaero:` (for example `/function xaero:silent/fairxaero`) to hide that, though players still receive a blank message.

Autorun on join

Autorun runs a chosen function whenever a player joins, so the restriction applies without an admin typing anything. It is off by default. `/function xaero:autorun/set/disabled` turns it off, and `/function xaero:autorun/set/...` selects the function to run.

Installing it

  1. 1.Mod route: pick the file for your loader and put it in the mods folder on the server. The Java mod install guide covers the steps.
  2. 2.Datapack route: use the plain datapack instead of a loader file.

Questions about Xaero's Map Server Utils.

4 questions

What does Xaero's Map Server Utils do?

It adds functions that let server administrators turn off the entity radar and cave mode, or disable the minimap entirely, for players using Xaero's map mods. The aim is fairer competitive play. An optional autorun feature applies the chosen function when players join.

Do players need to install Xaero's Map Server Utils?

No. It is required on the server and optional on the client. Players only need their own Xaero's Minimap or world map mod, and the server-side functions then change how those mods behave for them.

Can I use it without a mod loader?

Yes. Besides the Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt mod files, the project ships a plain datapack. Its newest build requires nothing else, so you can choose the datapack route instead of a loader file when that suits your setup better.

How do I stop players seeing which command I used?

Add `silent/` after `xaero:` when running the function, for example `/function xaero:silent/fairxaero`. Players will not be told which command was used, but they still receive a blank message in chat.
