GraveStone Mod

GraveStone Mod is henkelmax's Forge and NeoForge mod for Minecraft Java that leaves a lootable grave with your inventory and an obituary when you die. It is a separate project from the paid Bedrock Marketplace item and other same-named mods.

This page covers henkelmax's GraveStone Mod, a Forge and NeoForge mod for Minecraft Java Edition that places a lootable grave holding your inventory at the spot where you died. It is a different project from three other results sharing the name: the paid Gravestone item on the Bedrock Marketplace by creator darkosto, a separate Modrinth mod titled Gravestones, and our own Universal Graves page, which covers an unrelated Fabric and Quilt project.

What GraveStone Mod changes in Minecraft

Every death places a grave block at your location instead of scattering items on the ground. Breaking the grave, or sneaking on it when the config allows it, returns your inventory to its original slots. Each grave also generates an obituary that records the player's name, dimension, death timestamp, coordinates, an image of the character at the moment of death, and the full list of lost items. Breaking the grave with Silk Touch drops it as a placeable item, and naming it in an anvil puts custom text on the headstone instead of the player's name.

  • Grave placement replaces item scatter on death, with a config option to relocate it if the death spot is unsafe.
  • Obituary UI shows death location, time, equipped gear, and a full inventory list.
  • Sneaking on a grave (1.16.3 and later) sorts recovered items back into their original slots.
  • Silk Touch picks up a grave as an item, and anvil renaming customizes the headstone text.
  • The /restore command rebuilds a specific death's inventory from its death ID if items are lost again.

Installing GraveStone Mod on Forge or NeoForge

Install Forge or NeoForge that matches your target Minecraft version, then drop the loader-matching GraveStone Mod jar from Modrinth into the mods folder, on both the client and the server. No library mod is required to run it. Jade, the item and block inspection mod, is an optional companion that GraveStone Mod integrates with for in-world tooltips, not a dependency.

Which Minecraft version to pick

Loader support here is not one shared ceiling. NeoForge is the actively developed line: build 1.0.40+26.2, published August 17, 2026, reaches Minecraft 26.2. Forge's actively maintained line stopped advancing after build 1.0.35 on October 12, 2025, which targets 1.20.1. An earlier Forge build briefly reached 1.20.2 back in November 2023, but henkelmax dropped that branch and kept publishing for 1.20.1 instead, so 1.20.1 is the real current Forge ceiling, not the higher-numbered one from two years earlier.

Not the same project as these other grave mods

GraveStone Mod shares its generic name with several unrelated products, and that overlap shows up directly in search results for it. The paid Gravestone item on the Bedrock Marketplace, made by creator darkosto, is a Marketplace-exclusive product for Bedrock Edition, not a mod, and has no connection to henkelmax's Forge and NeoForge project. A separate Modrinth listing titled Gravestones is also a different mod by a different author. Our own Universal Graves page covers a Fabric and Quilt mod by Patbox that runs server-side only, built on a different codebase for a different loader family entirely.

  • Gravestone (Bedrock Marketplace, by darkosto): a paid, Bedrock-only Marketplace product, unrelated to this mod.
  • Gravestones (Modrinth): a separate mod by a different creator, not covered on this page.
  • Universal Graves: a Fabric and Quilt mod by Patbox, already covered on MinecraftHub at /mods/universal-graves.
  • GravesX: a server plugin covering the same death-chest idea for Paper, Spigot, Purpur, and Folia, without a client mod.

If you run a Paper, Spigot, Purpur, or Folia server without a Forge or NeoForge mod loader, GravesX covers the same death-chest idea as a server plugin instead of a client mod.

License and download

henkelmax lists GraveStone Mod on Modrinth under LicenseRef-All-Rights-Reserved, and the project's GitHub repository carries no separate license file granting reuse. There is no mirrored download here: get the jar for your loader from the official Modrinth listing linked below.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about GraveStone Mod.

5 questions

Is GraveStone Mod the same as the Gravestone add-on on the Bedrock Marketplace?

No. The paid Gravestone product on the Bedrock Marketplace is a Bedrock-only, Marketplace-exclusive item made by creator darkosto. GraveStone Mod is a separate, independently distributed Forge and NeoForge mod for Minecraft Java Edition made by henkelmax, and the two projects share nothing beyond the name.

Does GraveStone Mod work with Fabric?

No. GraveStone Mod only ships Forge and NeoForge builds. Fabric and Quilt players who want the same grave-on-death idea should look at Universal Graves, a separate mod by a different creator built specifically for those loaders.

Which Minecraft version does GraveStone Mod support?

It depends on the loader. NeoForge has the current build, reaching Minecraft 26.2 as of August 2026. Forge's most recent build only reaches 1.20.1, published October 2025, so Forge users on newer versions cannot use it yet.

How do I recover items I already lost with GraveStone Mod?

Use the /restore <player> <death_id> <replace|add> command. Find the death ID by opening the obituary with advanced tooltips enabled (F3 + H), then choose whether to replace your current inventory or add the recovered items to it. An admin can also generate this command by sneaking and right-clicking an obituary.

Is GraveStone Mod the same mod as Gravestones or Universal Graves on Modrinth?

No. Gravestones is a separate Modrinth listing by a different author. Universal Graves is a Fabric and Quilt mod by Patbox already covered on this site. GraveStone Mod, covered on this page, is henkelmax's Forge and NeoForge project, and none of the three share code or authorship.
