Item Scroller is a client-side mod that adds shortcuts for moving items in inventory screens. Scroll the mouse wheel over a slot, or hold a modifier key and drag across slots, and stacks move between inventories without a click per item. It also speeds up villager trading and crafting. Fabric is the loader that is still built, while Forge builds have stopped. Only the player's side needs it, so it works on vanilla servers.

Loaders and versions

  • Fabric: Minecraft 1.14 to 26.3. The newest build requires MaLiLib.
  • Forge: Minecraft 1.7.10 to 1.15.2, builds stopped after May 2024. The newest build requires MaLiLib; some builds for 1.7.10 to 1.12.2 need no dependencies.

Moving items by scroll and drag

The default modifier keys are Shift, Ctrl and Alt. Each move mode can be switched on or off individually, and the scroll direction can be reversed. Common defaults:

  • Mouse wheel alone moves one item from or to the hovered slot.
  • Shift + scroll moves matching stacks one by one.
  • Ctrl + scroll or Alt + click moves all matching stacks to the other inventory.
  • Ctrl + Shift + scroll moves everything.
  • Shift + left click and drag moves every stack you drag over.
  • Ctrl + Drop key + drag drops one item from each dragged-over slot.

Villager trading and crafting

Hover the output slot of a villager screen and hold Shift. Scrolling down fills the trade inputs, and scrolling up moves the result into your inventory, so repeated scrolling runs a trade quickly. In the 1.12.2 and 1.16.5+ versions, middle click marks favourite trades that rise to the top of the list.

Crafting helpers rely on an internal recipe storage with 18 slots of memory. Hold A in an inventory screen to open the recipe view, then middle click the output item on a crafting grid to store it. The massCraft and craftEverything hotkeys then work from the stored recipes.

Installation and configuration

  1. 1.Set up Fabric for your Minecraft release, following the Fabric install guide.
  2. 2.Put the Item Scroller file and the MaLiLib library file in the mods folder.
  3. 3.Launch with the Fabric profile and press I + C to open the in-game config screen.

Questions about Item Scroller.

4 questions

Does Item Scroller work on multiplayer servers?

Yes on vanilla servers. It is purely client-side, so it only needs to be installed on the player's side. It is not meant to be installed on a server, which is listed as unsupported.

Why use Item Scroller?

It replaces repeated clicking with scrolling and drag gestures. You can move one item, a stack, all matching stacks or everything, speed through villager trades, and craft from stored recipes. Every mode can be turned off individually in the config menu.

Does Item Scroller work on Forge?

Forge builds exist, but they stopped after May 2024. Fabric is the loader that keeps receiving new builds, so a current Minecraft release needs Fabric. Check the Forge listing for the older release you play.

How do I open the Item Scroller config?

Press I and C together in a modern build. The in-game screen lets you enable or disable each move mode, reverse scroll directions and rebind the modifier keys.
