Morph is a Minecraft Forge mod by iChun. Kill a mob and you acquire its form, then switch into it at will through a radial selector, gaining that mob's passive traits like slow fall or water breathing. It needs the iChunUtil library alongside Forge, and the newest build covers Minecraft 1.16.3 through 1.16.5 on both the client and the server.

How morphing works

Kill a living mob and Morph adds it to your collection automatically. Open the selector with the [ and ] keys, holding shift to move across rows, then confirm to become that mob. Most abilities are passive, tied to the mob you are wearing rather than a skill you trigger, so a morphed enderman still teleports and a morphed spider still climbs walls. The backtick key (~) favourites a morph and opens a smaller radial menu for quick swaps mid-fight.

Supported Minecraft versions and loader support

Morph is Forge only. Its most recent build, 10.2.1 from February 2023, targets Minecraft 1.16.3 through 1.16.5 and is the ceiling for this mod. There is no Fabric or NeoForge release and no 1.17 or newer build from iChun's own project, so it does not run on any current Minecraft version.

  • Minecraft 1.16.3 to 1.16.5 on Forge, build 10.x, the last actively maintained branch
  • Minecraft 1.12 to 1.12.2 on Forge, build 7.x
  • Minecraft 1.7.2 and 1.7.10 on Forge, build 0.8.x and 0.9.x
  • Minecraft 1.6.4 on Forge, the original ModJam entry, build 0.2.x to 0.7.x

Players on a current Minecraft version who want the same kill-and-become mechanic should look up ReMorphed on Modrinth, an unrelated ground-up rebuild by a different author that targets modern Fabric and NeoForge releases. It shares Morph's concept but not its codebase, creator, or file history.

Installation and dependencies

  1. 1.Install Minecraft Forge for the matching version, for example 1.16.5
  2. 2.Download iChunUtil for the same Minecraft version and loader
  3. 3.Download the matching Morph jar from the CurseForge files list
  4. 4.Drop both jars into the mods folder and launch the Forge profile

Morph is a gameplay mod rather than a client-only visual tweak, so install it on both the client and the server for multiplayer: a mismatched install means morphs acquired on one side will not sync correctly with the other.

Questions about Morph.

5 questions

Is Morph a mobile app or a Minecraft Java mod?

Morph, by iChun, is a Forge mod for Minecraft Java Edition installed through a launcher and the mods folder. It is not the "Morph Mod for Minecraft PE" app listed on Google Play or the App Store, which is a separate, unrelated product with no connection to iChun's mod.

Which Minecraft version does Morph support?

The newest build, 10.2.1, covers Minecraft 1.16.3 through 1.16.5 on Forge. Earlier builds cover 1.12 through 1.12.2, 1.7.2, 1.7.10, and 1.6.4. There is no build for 1.17 or any later Minecraft version.

Does Morph work with Fabric or NeoForge?

No. Morph only ships Forge builds. Players on Fabric or NeoForge who want the same concept on a current Minecraft version should look at ReMorphed, a separate ground-up rebuild by a different author, rather than expecting a Forge-only mod to run on another loader.

What does Morph require to run?

Morph needs Minecraft Forge and iChun's companion library mod, iChunUtil, matched to the same Minecraft version. Install both jars on the client, and on the server too if you want multiplayer morphs to sync correctly.

Is Morph safe to download?

Morph is distributed through iChun's own CurseForge project page under the LGPLv3 license, with over 25 million recorded downloads. Download it there rather than from a rehosted copy, since a source outside CurseForge or the linked GitHub repository is not iChun's file.
