Not Enough Crashes is a Java mod for Fabric, NeoForge and Quilt that turns a crash into something you can recover from. Instead of the window closing, you land on the title screen and carry on playing. It can be installed on a single-player setup, on a dedicated host, or on both, independently. An older Forge line exists but is no longer updated.

Loaders and versions

  • Fabric: Minecraft 1.16.5 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies.
  • NeoForge: Minecraft 1.20.6 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies.
  • Quilt: Minecraft 1.18.2 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies.
  • Forge: Minecraft 1.16.5 to 1.20.4, builds stopped after May 2025. The newest build needs no dependencies.

What it changes

  • Returns you to the title screen after a crash, with no restart needed.
  • Adds a crash screen for submitting syntax-highlighted crash reports in a few clicks.
  • Lists the mods involved in the crash. Each entry links to that mod's issue tracker.
  • Produces deobfuscated stack traces with extra detail such as NBT, aimed at mod developers.
  • Offers a forceCrashScreen option to make crash logs always appear.

Installation

Pick the loader you already run. If you have none yet, the guides on installing Fabric and installing Forge and NeoForge cover the setup. The newest builds for every current loader need no other mods or libraries.

  1. 1.Pick the file that matches your loader and your game release from the Modrinth page.
  2. 2.Place the .jar file in the mods folder of your game directory (.minecraft/mods by default).
  3. 3.Launch with the loader's profile. The same file type goes on a dedicated host if you want recovery there too.

General steps for any mod are in the Java mod installation guide.

Questions about Not Enough Crashes.

4 questions

What does Not Enough Crashes do?

It changes how crashes are handled. Rather than the window closing, you return to the title screen and keep playing without a restart. It also adds a crash screen for sharing reports, a list of the mods involved that links to their issue trackers, and more detailed stack traces for mod developers.

Does Not Enough Crashes work on multiplayer hosts?

Yes. The mod can be installed on the player side and on a dedicated host independently, so you can use it on either or both. Both sides are optional, and neither depends on the other being present.

Does Not Enough Crashes need Fabric API or other libraries?

No. The newest builds for Fabric, NeoForge and Quilt list no required dependencies, so you only need the mod file and a matching loader. Older Forge builds also list none, though Forge releases have stopped.

Is there a Forge release of Not Enough Crashes?

Forge builds exist for older releases, but they are no longer updated. Current development continues on Fabric, NeoForge and Quilt, so newer game releases need one of those loaders.
