One Survival Island is a data pack and mod for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt that turns the overworld into an endless ocean with a single island. You spawn on that island and no other land generates. It is required where the world is generated, while players joining a multiplayer world can go without it.
Loaders and versions
- Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt: Minecraft 1.19 to 26.1. The newest build needs no dependencies; some builds for 1.19 to 1.21.4 require More Density Functions.
What changes in the world
The oceans generate deeper than normal, which also stops the vanilla habit of placing land inside ocean biomes. The island is the only place to start, build and gather. Expect a few side effects from removing everything else.
- The ocean is deeper than normal.
- There are no mushroom islands.
- Dripstone caves and the deep dark will likely be missing, since they only generate inland.
- A river can sometimes overtake your island. Start a new world with a better seed if that happens.
Installing the mod or the datapack
Two routes exist, and you only need one. For the mod, pick the file that matches your loader, set up Fabric or Forge and NeoForge first, and follow the general mod install guide if you are new to it.
- 1.Mod route. Put the mod file in the mods folder, then launch with the profile for the same loader.
- 2.Datapack route. Island size can be edited in the datapack only, through the file described below.
Changing the island size
This works with the datapack only. Open data/one_island/worldgen/density_function/spawn.json and change the two numbers that set island size. The file has comments explaining each one. You can stretch the island to thousands of blocks long, or remove it entirely and keep just the deep ocean.
Questions about One Survival Island.
4 questions
How do I make the island bigger?
Use the plain datapack. Open data/one_island/worldgen/density_function/spawn.json and change the two numbers that set island size. Comments in the file explain each one. You can stretch the island to thousands of blocks long or remove it entirely. Configuring the mod in-game is a planned feature, not available yet.
Do players joining a multiplayer world need One Survival Island?
No. Players joining a multiplayer world do not need it installed. It is required on the machine that generates the world, so the host must have the mod or datapack in place. Joining players may still add it, since it is optional on their side.
Will it work with other world generation packs?
The creator expects a high chance of compatibility with most packs. The catch is that worldgen may be overridden by this island generation, so another pack that reshapes terrain can lose out. Create a test world first to see how the two combine before you commit to a long run.
Are there caves and mushroom islands?
Mushroom islands do not generate. Dripstone caves and the deep dark will likely be missing too, because they only generate inland. The oceans are also deeper than normal. The creator may add those cave biomes later if the pack becomes popular or players request them.
