Spartan Weaponry is a Forge and NeoForge mod for Minecraft Java that adds a full arsenal of melee, polearm, and ranged weapons beyond the vanilla sword and bow, inspired by the older Balkon's WeaponMod. It runs on both client and server, since both sides are required, and covers Minecraft 1.12.2 through the current 1.20.1 release. It needs nothing else installed to work, and it's also one of the core mods behind RLCraft, which is where most players first run into it.

What Spartan Weaponry adds

The mod organizes its weapons into four families, each craftable from the five vanilla tool materials so early access doesn't require hunting for new resources.

  • Bladed: Dagger, Longsword, Greatsword, Katana, Saber, and Rapier, each trading damage for attack speed differently.
  • Blunt: Quarterstaff, Club, Battle Hammer, Warhammer, and Cestus, several with armor-piercing or knockback effects.
  • Polearm: Spear, Halberd, Pike, and Lance, built around extended reach and shield-breaking hits.
  • Ranged: Longbow, Heavy Crossbow loaded with Bolts, and Throwing Knife, for options beyond the vanilla bow.

Installation and version support

Spartan Weaponry installs like any other Forge or NeoForge mod: drop the jar into the mods folder on both the client and the dedicated server, since the mod is required on both sides to work correctly. The newest build, 3.2.1, targets Minecraft 1.20.1 for Forge and NeoForge alike and was published in August 2025. Earlier releases cover 1.19.2, 1.18.2, 1.16.5, and 1.12.2 for older modpacks.

Optional integrations

Every extra connection is optional, and the mod works standalone with no other mods installed.

  • footwork: adds minor compatibility support; not required to use any weapon.
  • Curios API: lets certain Spartan Weaponry items slot into curio inventory slots when it's installed.
  • Just Enough Items (JEI): shows Spartan Weaponry's crafting recipes in the recipe browser.

Spartan Weaponry in RLCraft

Most searches for this mod come from RLCraft players, where Spartan Weaponry is bundled as a core combat mod rather than an optional add-on. Inside RLCraft the weapon set is shaped by the pack's own balance and enchant limits, so a halberd or heavy crossbow can feel different than in a standalone Forge install.

Questions about Spartan Weaponry.

5 questions

What weapons does Spartan Weaponry add?

Four weapon families: bladed weapons like the Longsword, Katana, and Rapier; blunt weapons like the Club and Warhammer; polearms like the Halberd, Pike, and Lance; and ranged weapons like the Longbow, Heavy Crossbow, and Throwing Knife. Most craft from the five vanilla tool materials.

Does Spartan Weaponry work with Fabric?

No. Spartan Weaponry only ships Forge and NeoForge builds. There is no Fabric or Quilt port as of the current 1.20.1-3.2.1 release, so a Fabric-only modpack cannot add it directly.

Which Minecraft version does Spartan Weaponry support?

The current release, 3.2.1, supports Minecraft 1.20.1 on both Forge and NeoForge, published August 2025. Earlier builds cover 1.19.2, 1.18.2, 1.16.5, and 1.12.2 for older setups.

Is Spartan Weaponry part of RLCraft?

Yes. Spartan Weaponry ships as a core combat mod inside the RLCraft modpack rather than an optional extra, which is why most players searching for it are already running RLCraft.

Do I need Curios API or JEI to use Spartan Weaponry?

No. Curios API and Just Enough Items are optional integrations, along with the smaller footwork mod. Spartan Weaponry's weapons, crafting, and combat mechanics all work with none of them installed.
