Sit

A small sitting plugin for Java servers. Players right-click stairs or slabs to sit, and admins define more sittable blocks in config.yml.

Sit is a lightweight sit plugin for Folia, Paper, Purpur and Spigot servers. Right-click a stair or slab with an empty hand and the player sits down. It runs on the server only, so players join with an unmodified install and need nothing extra.

Server software and versions

  • Folia, Paper, Purpur and Spigot: Minecraft 1.13 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies.

How sitting works

  • Right-click a stair or slab with an empty hand to sit.
  • Holding any item, or sneaking while you click, skips sitting.
  • Jump or move away to stand up.
  • Folia is supported through schedulers, alongside Paper and Spigot.

Installation

  1. 1.Download the latest jar from the Modrinth page.
  2. 2.Drop it into the plugins folder of your server.
  3. 3.Start or restart the server. A default config.yml appears under plugins/Sit.
  4. 4.Edit the layouts, then run /sit reload to apply changes without a restart.

If this is your first plugin, the plugin install guide walks through the folder layout and restart.

Configuration and layouts

Everything lives in config.yml as named layouts. The defaults ship a stairs layout and a slabs layout, both seating the player on a pig with the saddle hidden, plus a fun layout that seats players on an armor stand over end rods. Each layout sets its own entity type, saddle visibility and x, y, z offsets. A layout matches blocks in one of two ways: by BLOCKDATA class, such as the stairs or slab types, or by an explicit BLOCKS material list. That makes it possible to sit on nearly any block you choose.

Permissions and commands

Any layout can be locked behind a permission. In the default fun layout, players need sit.fun, built from the pattern sit.%s where %s is the layout name. The one command is /sit reload, which reloads the configuration live.

Questions about Sit.

4 questions

How do I sit with the Sit plugin?

Right-click a stair or slab with an empty hand. Holding an item or sneaking while you click skips sitting, so empty your hand and stand upright first. Jump or move away to stand up again. Other blocks work only if a layout in config.yml covers them.

Does Sit work on Folia?

Yes. Sit uses schedulers so it runs on Folia as well as Paper, Purpur and Spigot. Builds for all four are listed on the Modrinth page, and the newest release needs no dependencies.

Do players need to install anything to use Sit?

No. Sit is a server plugin, so only the server needs it. Players join with a normal install and sit by right-clicking a stair or slab.

How do I make more blocks sittable?

Add a new layout under sitables in config.yml. Choose an entity type, set offsets, pick the BLOCKDATA or BLOCKS check mode, and list the block classes or materials. Then run /sit reload to apply it.
