Anvil Unlocker is a plugin for Bukkit, Paper and Spigot that disables the "Too Expensive!" message and lets players keep using anvils past the vanilla cap of 40 levels. If you want an anvil unlocker plugin to stop heavily enchanted gear from locking up, this does that one job. It runs on the host only, so players join as usual and install nothing.
Server software and versions
- Bukkit, Paper and Spigot: Minecraft 1.15 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies.
Installation
- 1.Drop the plugin file into the plugins folder of your Bukkit, Paper or Spigot setup. The plugin installation guide covers the details.
- 2.Restart so the plugin loads.
Configuration and permissions
There are no permission nodes. Once the plugin is active, every player gets the lifted cap, so you do not need LuckPerms or any other permissions plugin to gate it. The one setting that matters is the cap itself. Any whole number from 41 to 32,767 is valid, which lets you choose a generous ceiling or a modest bump above vanilla.
Compatibility
Anvil Unlocker is built for Java Edition only, and the client side is unsupported, so there is nothing to put on player machines. The feature set is narrow. It changes the anvil cost ceiling and nothing else.
Questions about Anvil Unlocker.
4 questions
How high can Anvil Unlocker raise the anvil level cap?
The cap is configurable to any whole number from 41 to 32,767. Vanilla stops at 40 levels and shows the Too Expensive! message beyond it. Costs above 32,767 levels cannot be rendered correctly by the vanilla interface, so the plugin does not support them.
Does Anvil Unlocker need a permissions plugin?
No. The plugin has no permission nodes, so there is nothing to grant or deny. Once it is installed and the server restarted, the raised cap applies to every player using an anvil. You only need to decide which cap value suits your server.
Why does the anvil cost no longer turn red?
Vanilla clients cannot display a cost above 40 levels in red when the player lacks the experience. To keep behaviour consistent, the plugin disables the red cost colour entirely. The cost is still shown, and the anvil simply works within the cap you set.
Do players need to install anything for Anvil Unlocker?
No. It is a server plugin, so only the host installs it, in the plugins folder before a restart. Players join with a normal client, and the client side is unsupported, so there is nothing to add on their machines.
