The BetterChairs plugin lets players sit on stairs, slabs and, if you switch it on, any block at all. This remastered fork runs on Paper, Purpur and Spigot and is installed on the host only. Players join with a normal install and add nothing.
Server software and versions
- Paper, Purpur and Spigot: Minecraft 1.8 to 26.2. The newest build needs no dependencies.
What it changes
Every stair and slab works as a seat, including slabs placed in the upper half of a block. A config option turns any block into a chair, and you can require a sign to be attached to the seat before it counts. A world whitelist or blacklist decides where chairs work. Sitting is less aggressive than in the original, and config.yml can partly restore the old behaviour.
Config files are generated for you, and files from older releases convert automatically. Support for PlaceholderAPI is part of the remaster's feature list. The plugin also ships a documented API with events for developers, linked from its wiki.
Commands and permissions
- BetterChairs.use (on by default) lets players sit on chairs.
- /sit with BetterChairs.cmd.sit (on by default) seats a player on the ground.
- /BetterChairs with BetterChairs.cmd.toggle (on by default) lets a player disable chairs for themselves. Aliases are /toggleChairs and /bct.
- /BetterChairs reset with BetterChairs.cmd.reset ejects every player from their chair.
- /BetterChairs reload with BetterChairs.cmd.reload reloads the configuration files.
- BetterChairs.updater notifies players about updates when they join.
Installation
- 1.Place the plugin file in the plugins folder of your Paper, Purpur or Spigot host. The plugin installation guide covers the details.

Does BetterChairs need a permissions plugin?
No. The use, sit and toggle permissions default to true, so players can sit and switch chairs off for themselves without any setup.
How is BetterChairs Remastered different from the original?
It is an actively maintained fork. All stairs and slabs work, any block can become a chair through config, and there is a world whitelist or blacklist, optional required signs and PlaceholderAPI support. The code was fully rewritten and the old config files convert automatically.
Can players turn chairs off for themselves?
Yes. The /BetterChairs command, also reachable as /toggleChairs or /bct, lets an individual player disable chairs for themselves. It needs the BetterChairs.cmd.toggle permission, which is on by default.
