Dimension Control

A zero-config plugin that lets admins close and reopen the Nether and the End with a single command. Players with a bypass permission can still travel.

Dimension Control is a dimension control plugin that lets admins shut the Nether and the End and open them again later. It runs on Bukkit, Spigot, Paper, Purpur and Folia, and it is required on the server only. Players join with a normal client and install nothing.

Server software and versions

  • Bukkit, Paper, Purpur and Spigot: Minecraft 1.16 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies.
  • Folia: Minecraft 1.20 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies.

What it does

The plugin has one job. While a dimension is closed, players cannot use portals to enter it or teleport into it. That suits event servers, staged progression where the End opens only after a milestone, or a temporary lockdown while a world is being repaired.

The feature set is deliberately narrow. It needs zero configuration, and four commands cover everything it does.

Commands and permissions

  • /end close stops players entering the End.
  • /end open lets players into the End again.
  • /nether close stops players entering the Nether.
  • /nether open lets players into the Nether again.
  • dimensioncontrol.bypass gives full access to every locked dimension.
  • dimensioncontrol.bypass.end lets a player past End restrictions only.
  • dimensioncontrol.bypass.nether lets a player past Nether restrictions only.

Operators bypass restrictions by default, so staff can test a locked dimension without extra setup. Grant the bypass nodes through your permissions plugin for trusted non-operators.

Installation

Drop the plugin file into the plugins folder and restart the server. No configuration step follows. If you have not set up plugins before, the guide to installing plugins on a Paper or Spigot server covers the basics.

Questions about Dimension Control.

4 questions

How do I disable the End or Nether on my server?

Install Dimension Control in the plugins folder, restart, then run /end close or /nether close. Players can no longer use portals or teleport into that dimension. Run /end open or /nether open to restore access. Operators and players with a bypass permission are not blocked.

Does Dimension Control need a configuration file?

No. The plugin needs zero configuration. You drop it into the plugins folder and control everything with four commands, one open and one close for each of the End and the Nether.

Can some players still enter a closed dimension?

Yes. Operators bypass by default. For others, grant dimensioncontrol.bypass for every locked dimension, dimensioncontrol.bypass.end for the End only, or dimensioncontrol.bypass.nether for the Nether only.

Does Dimension Control work on Folia?

Yes, Folia has its own listed builds for Minecraft 1.20 to 26.3, and the newest one needs no dependencies. Bukkit, Paper, Purpur and Spigot builds are listed separately.
