Detailed Animations is a Java Edition resource pack that reworks how the player character moves in third person: walking, running, jumping, climbing, swimming, and flying all get smoother, more grounded poses instead of vanilla's stiff arm swing. It only renders through Fabric with two companion mods installed, and its newest beta build reaches Minecraft 26.1.2.

What changes in third person

  • Walking and running animation
  • Hoprun animation
  • Climbing animation
  • Horizontal flying animation
  • Jump and landing animation
  • In-water walking animation
  • Idle animation
  • In-rain animation
  • Burning animation
  • Cape and elytra physics

The creator still labels Detailed Animations a work in progress, so treat it as an evolving pack rather than a finished, locked-down animation set. New animations and fixes land as beta releases rather than on a fixed schedule.

Installing Detailed Animations with Fabric

Detailed Animations only renders through Fabric's custom entity model pipeline. Install Entity Model Features and Entity Texture Features alongside Fabric Loader, then drop the resource pack into the resourcepacks folder and enable it like any other Java pack. It is client-side only; a server does not need it, and server-side support is unsupported.

Known incompatibilities

  • OptiFine
  • Fresh Moves (resource pack)
  • Just Expressions (resource pack)
  • Better Animations (resource pack)
  • Serious Player Animations (mod)
  • Improved Animations / Trainguy's Animation Overhaul (mod)
  • Paper Doll (mod)
  • Minecraft Comes Alive Reborn (mod)

How Detailed Animations compares to Fresh Animations

Detailed Animations and Fresh Animations solve different problems. Detailed Animations only reworks the player's own third-person moves. Fresh Animations reanimates mobs like villagers, zombies, and endermen and leaves the player untouched. Fresh Animations accepts OptiFine or the same Entity Model Features and Entity Texture Features pair, so running both packs together does not create the model conflict Detailed Animations has with other player-animation packs, though each pack's own compatibility notes still apply on its own side. Fresh Animations also ships its own player-focused add-on, the Fresh Animations Player Extension, which covers third-person player moves within that family on the same EMF and ETF engine and is the closer direct alternative to Detailed Animations.

Questions about Detailed Animations.

4 questions

Does Detailed Animations work with Fresh Animations?

Yes, in the sense that the two do not conflict directly. Detailed Animations only changes the player's own third-person poses, while Fresh Animations reanimates mobs and leaves the player untouched. Both run on Entity Model Features and Entity Texture Features, so installing both at once does not create the model conflicts Detailed Animations has with other player-animation packs.

Do I need OptiFine for Detailed Animations?

No. Detailed Animations lists OptiFine as an outright incompatibility, not an alternative. Install Fabric Loader with Entity Model Features and Entity Texture Features instead. Those two mods render the pack's custom player models, and OptiFine's own custom entity model implementation conflicts with them.

Why do some 3D items look wrong with Detailed Animations installed?

Players on r/fabricmc have reported broken or misplaced 3D item rendering after adding Detailed Animations, describing it as a known conflict between its custom player models and other mods that also touch entity or item rendering through Entity Model Features and Entity Texture Features. Removing the resource pack has fixed the display for affected players, so treat the combination as unresolved until the creator confirms a fix.

Is Detailed Animations safe to download?

Detailed Animations is only distributed from its Modrinth listing under an all-rights-reserved license, with no authorized mirrors elsewhere. Download it directly from Modrinth rather than a third-party rehost, since the creator has not licensed the pack for redistribution on other sites.
