Essential UI is a small 16x resource pack for Java that restyles every button and the hotbar to match the Essential Mod. It needs no loader and runs only on your own machine, so a multiplayer host cannot load it for you. It suits players who already run Essential and want the vanilla screens to look cleaner and consistent with it.
Supported versions
- Minecraft 1.8.9 to 26.2.
How to install Essential UI
- 1.Open Options > Resource Packs > Open Pack Folder.
- 2.Drop the pack's .zip into that folder.
- 3.Move Essential UI to the Selected side of the Resource Packs screen and confirm.
A pack built for a different release can still load, though it shows an incompatibility warning. For a wider walkthrough, see the resource pack install guide.
What changes visually
The pack changes all buttons and the hotbar to fit the style of the Essential mod. Blocks, items and mobs are not described as part of the pack, so do not expect new textures there.
Companion mods and settings
OptiFine is not required. The pack also lists no mod dependency, but its whole purpose is matching Essential, so it pays off mainly when that mod is installed. Bug reports and suggestions go through the creator's Discord, and the code and issue tracker live on GitHub.
Questions about Essential UI.
3 questions
How do I install the Essential UI resource pack?
Open Options, then Resource Packs, then Open Pack Folder. Put the downloaded .zip in that folder, return to the Resource Packs screen and move Essential UI to the Selected side. The pack applies on your own install only, so nothing needs changing on a multiplayer host.
Does Essential UI need OptiFine?
No. The creator states plainly that you do not need OptiFine for this pack to work. It also lists no other required mod or library, so it loads as an ordinary Java resource pack.
Is Essential UI available for Bedrock?
No. Essential UI is a Java pack hosted on Modrinth, which serves Java content, and Bedrock uses a different pack format. The pack is built to match the Essential mod's look on Java.
