Malfu Combat Animation is a Java resource pack that swaps in custom swing animations for Better Combat, which runs on Fabric and Forge. It is the animation half of a split release, and it targets players who want weapon attacks that look distinct for each weapon class.
Supported versions
- Minecraft 1.20.1 to 1.21.4. The newest build requires Better Combat [Fabric & Forge].
What it animates
Animations cover axe, battle staff, claymore, cutlass, claw, dagger, double axe, fist, halberd, hammer, great hammer, great axe, mace, rapier and sword. Some pose animations are included too.
Malfu notes the animations may also suit developers working with playerAnimator who want to build a new combat mod, and invites you to write your own data pack around them.
How to install Malfu Combat Animation
- 1.Install Better Combat, plus PAXI or Open Loader, which load the packs from config folders.
- 2.Launch the game once and quit, so the config/paxi or config/openloader folder is created.
- 3.Put the resource pack and the matching data pack each in its own folder inside that config directory.
- 4.Start again and swing a weapon to confirm the new animations play.
If you place the zip by hand, the general steps are in our guide to installing resource packs. The loader mods above are the route the pack's own instructions favour.
Trade-offs
Three pieces must line up: the mod, a loader for packs, and two separate packs. That is more setup than a normal resource pack. The payoff is a per-weapon animation set.

Questions about Malfu Combat Animation.
4 questions
Does Malfu Combat Animation work without a data pack?
No. The resource pack is useless by itself and needs Malfu's separate data pack. Both must be loaded, and Better Combat must be installed for the newest release to work. PAXI or Open Loader make loading easier, with each pack placed in its own config folder.
How do I install Malfu Combat Animation?
Install Better Combat and either PAXI or Open Loader, then start and quit once so the config folder appears. Place the resource pack and data pack in their own folders under config/paxi or config/openloader, and launch again.
Is Malfu Combat Animation available for Bedrock?
No. Malfu Combat Animation is a Java Edition resource pack, listed as a Java project on CurseForge. Bedrock uses a different pack format, so these files are not meant for it. Java players load it alongside the data pack through PAXI or Open Loader.
Which weapons does Malfu Combat Animation cover?
It animates axes, battle staffs, claymores, cutlasses, claws, daggers, double axes, fists, halberds, hammers, great hammers, great axes, maces, rapiers and swords. A few pose animations are also included in the pack.
