No Cave Ambience is a no cave ambience resource pack for Java that removes the eerie, creepy noises that play while you explore underground. It is made by Arcomua Team and covers a very wide range of releases. It applies on your own machine, and a multiplayer host cannot use it.

Supported versions

  • Minecraft 1.6.1 to 26.3.

How it works

The pack replaces the `minecraft:ambient.cave` sound event with an empty sound list in `sounds.json`. Older releases of the pack swapped in near-empty audio files instead, but the current approach needs no silent audio at all, so the pack stays small.

Because the whole event is emptied, every sound assigned to it goes quiet, including cave sounds added in later updates.

How to install No Cave Ambience

  1. 1.Get the .zip from the Modrinth page.
  2. 2.In Options, open Resource Packs, then Open Pack Folder, and drop the file in.
  3. 3.Move the pack to the Selected side of the screen and confirm.

If the pack shows an incompatibility warning on an unusual release, it can still load. The resource pack install guide covers the same steps in more detail.

Known limitations

The pack is all or nothing. You cannot silence only some cave sounds, because the entire event is emptied.

Questions about No Cave Ambience.

4 questions

Does No Cave Ambience work on Bedrock?

No. No Cave Ambience is a Java-only resource pack, and Bedrock uses a different pack format. The pack installs through the Resource Packs screen in the Java options menu. Players on Bedrock need a separate pack built for their own format.

Why did a map's custom sounds stop working?

Some map resource packs reuse the cave ambience sound event for their own audio. Since this pack empties that event, the custom audio goes silent too. Disable No Cave Ambience while you play that map, then turn it back on afterwards.

Does No Cave Ambience need to be installed on a multiplayer host?

No, and it cannot be. The pack runs only on your own machine and is unsupported on a multiplayer host. Install it locally through the Resource Packs screen and it silences cave ambience for you alone.

How do I remove cave ambience sounds in Java?

Install a pack that empties the cave ambience sound event, such as No Cave Ambience. Place the .zip in your resourcepacks folder, move it to the Selected side of the Resource Packs screen, and the eerie underground noises stop.
