C418 Songs Only is a Java resource pack that removes every non-C418 background track from the music rotation. It covers releases 1.16 to 26.3 and needs no other mods. It loads on the player's own side and is not supported on multiplayer hosts.
What changes in the soundtrack
The pack rewrites the sounds.json file so that only C418 songs can be picked for background music. Within a biome's music list, no single song is favoured over another. No audio files are added, so the pack only filters what already exists.
- Non-C418 background tracks are removed.
- Music discs keep working and are not replaced.
- No extra C418 music is added, and non-C418 tracks cannot be kept.
Installation
Put the .zip in the resourcepacks folder (Options > Resource Packs > Open Pack Folder), then move it to the Selected side. The resource pack install guide covers the steps in detail.
Two file types exist. POST files are for 1.20.3 and above, PRE files are for 1.20.2 and below. Only the latest releases are trusted to work as intended, so avoid old files.
Known limitations
The feature set is deliberately narrow. If the pack shows as unsupported on a release it should match, you are most likely on an older one, and the message can be dismissed since it is only a visual bug. Bedrock is not covered, and Bedrock support is listed as an open contribution idea on GitHub.
The pack contains none of C418's songs. It only changes which tracks are allowed to play, in line with C418's own guidance on how his music may be used.
Questions about C418 Songs Only.
5 questions
How do I play only C418 music in Minecraft Java?
Install a pack that filters the soundtrack, such as C418 Songs Only. It edits sounds.json so non-C418 background tracks never play. Place the .zip in the resourcepacks folder, move it to the Selected side of the Resource Packs screen, and the music rotation is limited to C418 songs.
Does C418 Songs Only remove music discs?
No. Music discs stay fully functional and are not replaced. The pack only changes the background music that plays on its own. It also adds no new C418 tracks, so you hear the same C418 songs the base soundtrack already contains, without the other composers.
Should I pick the PRE or POST file?
Use POST for 1.20.3 and above, and PRE for 1.20.2 and below. Both are meant for the matching range only. The creator also advises trusting only the latest releases of the pack, so pick the newest file in the right group rather than an older one.
Why does C418 Songs Only show as unsupported?
If you are on a release the pack lists but still see the warning, you are most likely on an older one. The message is a visual bug and can be dismissed. A pack built for another release can still load, it simply shows an incompatibility warning.
Is there a Bedrock release of C418 Songs Only?
No. This pack is Java only. Bedrock uses a different format, and Bedrock support appears on the GitHub page only as an idea for contributors.
