Remove Damage Overlay is a Java resource pack that removes the damage tint from all entities, so anything that gets hit keeps its normal look. SuperAnt_ made it as a core shader tweak, and Modrinth files it under core shaders, entities, tweaks and utility. It works with both OptiFine and Sodium, and it loads only on the player's own install.
Supported versions
- Minecraft 1.17 to 1.21.11.
- Minecraft 1.20.2 to 1.21.5, builds stopped after September 2024.
What changes visually
Entities that take damage normally pick up a hit color. This pack takes that tint off every entity. It is a single-purpose tweak: the hit tint goes, and nothing else is advertised. If you want cleaner footage, a calmer fight or an unobstructed view of a mob's texture, that is the whole appeal.
The trade-off follows directly. With the tint gone, you lose that visual cue when something is hurt, so combat feedback has to come from other signals.
How to install Remove Damage Overlay
- 1.Get the .zip from the Modrinth page linked on this listing.
- 2.In Options, open Resource Packs, then Open Pack Folder, and drop the .zip into the resourcepacks folder.
- 3.Move the pack to the Selected side of the Resource Packs screen.
The general steps are covered in our guide to installing resource packs. A pack built for another release can still load, but it shows an incompatibility warning.
Compatibility with Sodium and OptiFine
The pack works with OptiFine and with Sodium, so you can keep your usual rendering setup. Because it is a resource pack, it needs no loader of its own and asks for no other dependency. Sodium and OptiFine are optional extras, not requirements.
Questions about Remove Damage Overlay.
3 questions
Does Remove Damage Overlay work with Sodium and OptiFine?
Yes. It works with both OptiFine and Sodium. It is a resource pack, so it needs no loader of its own and has no required dependencies. Once it sits on the Selected side of the Resource Packs screen, it removes the damage tint from all entities.
Is Remove Damage Overlay available for Bedrock?
No. Remove Damage Overlay is built for Java only, and Bedrock uses a different format, so it is not offered there. Bedrock players need a separate pack made for that platform. On Java it works with OptiFine and Sodium, and it needs no loader or other dependency.
How do I stop entities from changing color when they take damage?
Install Remove Damage Overlay. Put its .zip in the resourcepacks folder through Options, Resource Packs, Open Pack Folder, then move it to the Selected side. The pack removes the hit tint from all entities, so they keep their normal look when hurt.
