Transparency Fix

Unlocks alpha channel rendering for beds, paintings, shields, tridents, books and banners, so other packs can give them transparent textures.

What Transparency Fix works with.

PlatformJava Edition
Minecraft versions1.20.2, 1.20.6, 1.21.11, 26.1.2

Transparency Fix is a utility resource pack for Java that lets entities normally drawn as opaque show the alpha channel in their textures. It edits vanilla core shaders and is designed to sit alongside other resource packs. It runs on the player's side only, and multiplayer hosts do not support it.

Supported versions

  • Minecraft 1.20.2 to 26.1.2.

What changes visually

The pack unlocks alpha channel rendering for entities that are hard-coded to be opaque. You must apply textures with transparency from another pack to see the effect. Supported entities are:

  • Beds
  • Paintings
  • Shields
  • Tridents
  • Books on lecterns and enchanting tables
  • Banners

How to install Transparency Fix

  1. 1.Get the .zip from Modrinth and place it in the resourcepacks folder (Options > Resource Packs > Open Pack Folder).
  2. 2.Move Transparency Fix to the Selected side of the Resource Packs screen.
  3. 3.Add the pack whose textures use transparency to the same list.

New to packs? The resource pack install guide covers the folder and ordering steps. A pack built for a different release can still load, but it shows an incompatibility warning.

Known limitations

The fix covers only the entities listed above, and it is Java only. Bedrock uses a different pack format and is not supported.

Questions about Transparency Fix.

4 questions

Does Transparency Fix work on its own?

No. The pack unlocks alpha channel rendering in vanilla core shaders, and you must apply textures with transparency to see the effect. Use it alongside another resource pack that supplies transparent pixels for beds, paintings, shields, tridents, books or banners. Without such textures, those entities look the same as in vanilla.

Which entities does Transparency Fix affect?

It supports beds, paintings, shields, tridents, books on lecterns and enchanting tables, and banners. These are entities that are normally hard-coded to be opaque. Other entities and blocks are outside what the pack lists, so do not expect it to change them.

Is Transparency Fix available for Bedrock?

No. It is a Java resource pack that modifies Java core shaders, and it is hosted on Modrinth, which serves Java content. Bedrock uses a different pack format, so this pack will not load there.

Do I need to install Transparency Fix on a multiplayer host?

No. The pack is required only on the player's own setup, and multiplayer hosts do not support it. Add it to your own Resource Packs screen alongside the pack that provides the transparent textures.
