RetroVision is a vanilla-like shader pack that dresses Java in the look of an old VHS television. It runs on Iris and OptiFine and keeps the core experience intact. The effect sits on top of it.
Shader loaders and versions
- Iris and OptiFine: Minecraft 1.8 to 1.21.11.
Effects and options
The pack is written in GLSL 120 and stacks several screen effects into an old-school TV image while keeping the core look of the world. It is a stylistic filter, not a realism upgrade.
- Motion blur, optional
- Gamma adjustment
- Black and white option
How to install RetroVision
- 1.Install Iris (on Fabric or NeoForge) or OptiFine. The install guide covers both.
- 2.Put the pack's .zip file in the shaderpacks folder without unpacking it.
- 3.Open Video Settings, then Shader Packs, and select RetroVision.
Bedrock cannot run Iris or OptiFine, so this pack is Java only. If the pack does not appear in the menu, the shader troubleshooting guide lists the usual causes.
Trade-offs and permissions

Questions about RetroVision.
4 questions
How do I install RetroVision shaders?
Install Iris or OptiFine first. Place the RetroVision .zip in the shaderpacks folder, then open Video Settings and choose Shader Packs. Select RetroVision from the list and apply it.
Does RetroVision work with Iris and OptiFine?
Yes. The creator lists both as compatible, and the newest file covers the full 1.8 to 1.21.11 range for each. Iris runs on Fabric or NeoForge.
Can I use RetroVision on Bedrock?
No. RetroVision is a Java shader pack that relies on Iris or OptiFine, and neither loader exists for Bedrock. Bedrock uses a different pack format, so this pack will not load there.
Does RetroVision include motion blur or black and white?
Yes, both are listed as optional features. The pack also lists a gamma adjustment alongside motion blur and the black and white option.
