Terder's Potato Shader is a lightweight shader pack for Java, made by Terdernah for low-end PCs and older laptops. It runs on Iris and keeps its pipeline lean so frame rates stay high. Install it on your own machine only, since it has no server-side role.
Shader loaders and versions
- Iris: Minecraft 1.21.10 to 26.2.
What it changes
The pack drops complex calculations and extra post-processing, keeping only the essentials that make the world look better. The creator describes very low vertex and fragment complexity, quick loading and no micro-stutters as the goals.
- Optimized water.
- Enhanced shadows.
- Minimal GPU load, with no bloat or extra post-processing.
- Fast loading without micro-stutters.
Installation
- 1.Install Iris, the only shader loader this pack lists.
- 2.Get the .zip from the file section of the Modrinth page.
- 3.Open Options, then Video Settings, then Shader Packs.
- 4.Click Open Shader Packs Folder and drop the .zip into it.
- 5.Select the pack in the list.
If you have never set up a loader, the shader install guide covers it step by step. If the pack does not appear or the screen turns black, try the shaders not working fix.
Trade-offs
This is a deliberately small pack. It targets Iris only, and Bedrock cannot run it.
Questions about Terder's Potato Shader.
3 questions
Is Terder's Potato Shader good for low-end PCs?
It is designed for that. The creator describes very low vertex and fragment complexity, no unnecessary post-processing and quick loading, aimed at weak hardware and older laptops. Actual frame rates depend on your machine, and the newest file is still an alpha, so treat it as a lightweight option to try.
How do I install Terder's Potato Shader?
Install Iris first. Then get the .zip from the file section, open Options, Video Settings, Shader Packs, and click Open Shader Packs Folder. Drop the .zip into that folder and select the pack in the list. Nothing needs installing on a multiplayer host.
Which Java versions does Terder's Potato Shader support?
It supports Java releases from 1.21.10 to 26.2 on Iris. It is not available for Bedrock, because Iris is a Java-only mod and Bedrock uses a different shader format.
