What Fast Smelt works with.
| Platform | Java Edition |
|---|---|
| Loaders | Fabric, Forge, NeoForge |
| Minecraft versions | 1.21, 1.21.11, 26.1.2, 26.2, 26.3 |
| Environment | Client, Server |
Fast Smelt makes furnaces, blast furnaces, smokers and campfires process one item per tick, so a full stack of ore is done almost as soon as it goes in. It ships as a single mod file for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, and also as a plain data pack, so the fast smelt data pack route works for anyone who skips loaders. It is required on the multiplayer host and optional on players' own machines.
Loaders and versions
- Fabric, Forge and NeoForge: Minecraft 1.21 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies.
What it changes
Every smeltable item gets the one-tick speed, not a short list of ores. moonbrooke made it to avoid waiting on big batches while out exploring. The consequence is plain: a regular furnace now matches a blast furnace and a smoker, which leaves those two blocks largely redundant.
The trade-off is that the change is blunt. Speed is fixed at one tick per item, and the creator's page describes no setting to tune it, so survival worlds built around fuel and waiting will lose that pacing.
Choosing the mod or the data pack
Pick one route, never both. The mod file bundles Fabric, Forge and NeoForge support. The data pack needs no loader at all. Both do the same job.
- 1.Mod route. Put the mod file in the mods folder inside the Minecraft game directory, then launch with the profile of the loader it was made for.
- 2.Data pack route. Download the data pack build instead of the mod file. It needs no loader and no dependencies.
- 3.If you have never installed a mod, the Java mod installation guide covers the steps.
The mod is licensed per the note above, and the creator explicitly allows use in modpacks.
Questions about Fast Smelt.
4 questions
Should I use the Fast Smelt mod or the data pack?
Either works, and you only need one. The mod file covers Fabric, Forge and NeoForge in a single file, while the data pack needs no loader. Choose whichever is easier for your setup. Both make smelting take one tick per item.
Does Fast Smelt work in multiplayer?
Yes. It is required on the multiplayer host, so smelting speeds up for everyone on that world. Players joining are not required to install it, since it is optional on their side.
Which blocks does Fast Smelt speed up?
It speeds up the furnace, blast furnace, smoker and campfire. Each processes one item per tick, and it applies to all smeltable items. As a result, the blast furnace and smoker become mostly redundant next to a regular furnace.
Why does the Fast Smelt data pack say it is incompatible?
The creator notes that loading the data pack may show an incompatible warning, but it still works. You can enable it anyway and smelting will run at one tick per item.
