Higher Heights is a higher heights data pack that also ships as a mod for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt. It lifts the vanilla world height limit of 384 blocks so tall structures and skyscrapers become possible. The mod needs to be on the server, while the client side is optional.
Loaders and versions
- Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt: Minecraft 1.17 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies.
Height options
Heights of 512, 1024, 2032 and 4064 blocks are available. The 4064 setting is the vanilla ceiling a datapack can reach, and it changes the three dimensions differently.
- Overworld: 4064 blocks, from y=-2032 to y=2032.
- The Nether: 2032 blocks, from y=0 to y=2032. It cannot go above or below that.
- The End: 4064 blocks, from y=-2032 to y=2032, so the End pillars reach down to y=-2032.
Two ways to install it
The plain datapack is the vanilla route. Any vanilla player on a matching release can join a world that uses it, with no loader needed. The mod route suits a modded setup: pick the file for your loader and Minecraft release, drop it into the mods folder, and launch with that loader's profile. The mod installation guide covers the steps. The newest files need no other mods.
Trade-offs and warnings
The 4064 setting is a poor fit for the Default, Amplified and Single Biome presets. Those worlds generate bedrock at y=-64, which wastes height and performance and causes bugs with Nether travel. Superflat worlds work fine, and the lower height options do not have this problem.
New terrain is not taller. Worlds still generate with ordinary mountains, so the extra room is for building. Expect lag at high render distances and possible changes to mob spawning. The creator suggests a performance modpack such as Fabulously Optimized.
Questions about Higher Heights.
4 questions
How high can I build with Higher Heights?
The tallest option reaches 4064 blocks in the Overworld and End, from y=-2032 to y=2032. The Nether tops out at 2032 blocks, from y=0 to y=2032. Smaller options of 512, 1024 and 2032 blocks are also available.
Can I remove Higher Heights from an existing world?
It is very difficult to do without corrupting the save, because of how Minecraft handles chunk saving. Treat it as a permanent choice for that world and keep regular backups before changing anything.
Does Higher Heights make taller mountains generate?
No. New worlds still generate normal terrain with small mountains. The extra height is room for your own structures. The creator says he is slowly looking for a way to generate much larger mountains.
Can vanilla players join a world that uses Higher Heights?
Yes, when the world uses the datapack. Any vanilla player on a matching release can join it. The mod files are the alternative for loader setups, and the mod is required on the server.
