I Want That Back is a small quality of life addition for Minecraft Java. It lets you get something back from minecarts with hoppers, chests, furnaces or TNT, and from chest boats. It runs as a mod on Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, or as a plain datapack. The mod is required on the server, and clients may skip it.
Loaders and versions
- Fabric, Forge and Quilt: Minecraft 1.19 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies.
- NeoForge: Minecraft 1.21 to 26.3. The newest build needs no dependencies.
What it changes
The idea is simple. It lets you get something back from hopper, chest, furnace and TNT minecarts, and from chest boats. There are no extra items, menus or settings described, so the feature set is deliberately narrow.
Installing the mod
- 1.Install the loader that matches your setup. The guides for Fabric and Forge or NeoForge cover it.
- 2.Download the file for your loader and Minecraft version from Modrinth.
- 3.Place the mod file in the mods folder of the game directory, on the server for multiplayer. See installing Java mods if you are unsure.
- 4.Start the game or server with that loader's profile.
Installing the datapack instead
A plain datapack build is also published on Modrinth alongside the mod files, so the project offers a second install route besides the loader mods.
Trade-off
This is a single-purpose tweak, and no configuration options are listed. On a multiplayer world the server must carry it, while players can join without installing anything.
Questions about I Want That Back.
4 questions
What does I Want That Back do?
It lets you get something back from minecarts with hoppers, chests, furnaces or TNT, and from chest boats. The aim is to spare you the loss of the hopper or chest you spent crafting the vehicle.
Is I Want That Back a mod or a datapack?
Both. It ships as a mod for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, and as a plain datapack. Choose whichever fits your setup.
Do players need I Want That Back on a multiplayer server?
The server needs it. Installation on the client is optional, so players can join a server running it without adding anything to their own mods folder.
Does I Want That Back need Fabric API or another library?
No. The newest builds for every loader and for the datapack list no dependencies, so the file alone is enough once your loader is installed.
