| Platform | Java Edition |
|---|---|
| Loaders | Fabric, Forge, NeoForge |
| Minecraft versions | 1.21, 1.21.11, 26.1.2, 26.2 |
| Environment | Client, Server |
Not Enough Trials rebuilds trial chambers from the ground up. It runs on Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, and it also ships as a plain datapack for players who want the not enough trials datapack route. It must be installed on the server, and it is optional on the client.
Loaders and versions
- Fabric, Forge and NeoForge: Minecraft 1.21 to 26.2. The newest build needs no dependencies.
What changes in the chambers
Rooms are more open, which removes the maze-like traversal of the original. Chambers generate consistently instead of colliding and ending in dead-end hallways. Each chamber has exactly four spawners, so the number of keys per structure stays predictable. Chambers are also exposed in caves, so you can find them without a map.
- Five new original chambers, Ladder, Channel, Crash, Cargo and Streak, with Streak available on 1.21.4 and later.
- Boss chambers, secret chambers and a vertical chamber variant.
- Much wider mob variety, with each chamber tied to its own tough spawner.
- Vaults split into armor, valuables and weapons, so your keys choose the loot category.
- Luck potions earned in secret rooms, which give vault loot a 33% chance of a double drop.
- Four new rare enchantments.
Wind charges matter more, dispensers hit much harder, and every block of chiseled copper does something when scraped. Optional support for Enchantment Descriptions exists on some older releases.
Installing as a mod or a datapack
- 1.Mod route: install the loader that matches your game, as covered in the guides for Fabric or Forge and NeoForge.
- 2.Drop the .jar for your loader into the mods folder, on the server and optionally on the client, then launch with that loader's profile.
- 3.Datapack route: download the datapack release for 1.21 to 1.21.11 from the Modrinth page instead of a mod jar.
Questions about Not Enough Trials.
3 questions
Is Not Enough Trials a mod or a datapack?
Both. It is published as a mod for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, and as a datapack. The mod covers newer Minecraft releases, while the datapack covers 1.21 to 1.21.11 and stops at release 4.2. Pick the datapack route only if you play within that range.
Does Not Enough Trials need to be installed on the server?
Yes. Not Enough Trials is required on the server and optional on the client. The Fabric, Forge and NeoForge releases share that side requirement, and the newest release of each needs no other mods. Anyone hosting a world should install it there first.
Does Not Enough Trials work with other loaders?
The mod has builds for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge. Quilt is not listed. Match the jar to your loader and your game release before you launch.
