Six Even Better Enchants book textures displayed in item frames outdoors

Even Better Enchants is a Minecraft Java resource pack that gives every enchantment its own book texture, so a stack of enchanted books reads at a glance in a chest, an item frame, or a villager's trade screen instead of showing the same plain cover for everything. The pack keeps a vanilla-like art style rather than reworking the interface, and the current release covers Minecraft 1.21.5 through 26.2. It is a separate project from Even Better Enchanted Books, a similarly named pack with its own distinct artwork.

Even Better Enchants is not Even Better Enchanted Books

Two Modrinth projects solve the same problem under almost the same name. This page covers Even Better Enchants, maintained by mythitorium since 2022 and downloaded more than 4.9 million times. It began as a continuation of an older pack called Better Enchant Books by the creator Yomna, republished with permission. Yomna now also runs a separate, currently active project called Even Better Enchanted Books, which gives each enchantment its own book texture too, but with different artwork and its own file history. The two packs are not interchangeable, so check the source link on this page before downloading if you want mythitorium's version specifically.

What changes visually

Instead of the single vanilla enchanted book cover, every enchantment gets its own color and pattern, so players can tell Sharpness from Silk Touch or Mending from Frost Walker without opening a tooltip. The change applies wherever the enchanted book item model renders: item frames, chests, inventories, and the librarian trade screen. Enchanted book stacking and sorting behave exactly as in vanilla Minecraft; only the texture changes.

Installing Even Better Enchants

  1. 1.Download the pack from the Even Better Enchants Modrinth page.
  2. 2.Open .minecraft/resourcepacks (Options, then Resource Packs, then Open Pack Folder) and drop the downloaded file in.
  3. 3.Enable the pack from the resource pack list in-game and move it above any pack you want it to override.

Supported Minecraft versions

  • 1.17 through 1.20.6: needs CIT Resewn, OptiFine, or EnchantedBookEnabler
  • 1.21 through 1.21.4: needs CIT Resewn, OptiFine, or EnchantedBookEnabler
  • 1.21.5 through 26.2: works with no companion mod (current release, published December 2025)

What Even Better Enchants does not change

Even Better Enchants only reskins enchanted books. It leaves the enchantment glint on tools, weapons, and armor untouched, so a sword or pickaxe still shows the vanilla shimmer. Players who also want that glint changed can pair this pack with Enchantment Outlines, a separate resource pack that recolors the outline on enchanted gear instead of books. Readers who want a refresher on how enchanting itself works can check the enchanting table guide.

Questions about Even Better Enchants.

5 questions

Is Even Better Enchants the same as Even Better Enchanted Books?

No. Even Better Enchants, maintained by mythitorium, continues an older pack called Better Enchant Books with permission from its original creator, Yomna. Even Better Enchanted Books is a separate, currently active project by Yomna herself, using its own distinct artwork. Both give each enchantment a unique book texture, but they are different downloads, so check the source link before installing.

How do I install Even Better Enchants?

Download the pack from its Modrinth page, then drop the file into the resourcepacks folder inside your .minecraft directory. Open Options, then Resource Packs in-game, and move Even Better Enchants into the active list. On Minecraft 1.21.4 or earlier, install CIT Resewn, OptiFine, or the EnchantedBookEnabler data pack first, or the new textures will not appear.

Does Even Better Enchants need OptiFine or CIT Resewn?

Only on Minecraft 1.21.4 and earlier. Install CIT Resewn, OptiFine, or the EnchantedBookEnabler data pack alongside the pack on those versions, or the enchanted book textures stay vanilla. From 1.21.5 onward, Minecraft's own item model system renders the custom textures on its own, with no companion mod required.

Which Minecraft version does Even Better Enchants support?

The current release, published in December 2025, covers Minecraft Java 1.21.5 through 26.2, the year-based version numbering Mojang introduced in 2026. Earlier builds go back to 1.17, but everything before 1.21.5 needs CIT Resewn, OptiFine, or the EnchantedBookEnabler data pack installed alongside the pack to render the textures.

Is Even Better Enchants safe to use?

Even Better Enchants is licensed under the Apache License 2.0 and distributed through its own Modrinth listing, which this page links to directly rather than mirroring the file. As with any resource pack, only download it from that official Modrinth page, not a third-party rehost claiming to offer the same textures.
