Icon Xaero's

An add-on resource pack that gives Xaero's Minimap and Xaero's World Map custom icons for mobs from over 100 Java mods, built to run alongside those map mods rather than replace anything on its own.

Icon Xaero's graveyard-themed icon set with four custom map icons for modded mobs

Icon Xaero's is an add-on resource pack, not a standalone download. The project requires Xaero's Minimap installed first, and the pack's own files also add matching icons to Xaero's World Map. Once loaded, it swaps the plain default marker Xaero's map draws for an unrecognized mob with a distinct icon, covering entities from more than a hundred Java content mods.

What Icon Xaero's changes

The pack only touches how Xaero's Minimap and World Map render mob icons. It does not add mobs, change mob behavior, or touch vanilla gameplay. Coverage spans mod families like Alex's Mobs, Ars Nouveau, the Aether, Mowzie's Mobs, and Cobblemon, alongside dozens of smaller content mods, and the creator keeps adding new icon sets as requests come in through the project page.

  • Platform: Minecraft Java Edition, client-side only
  • Dependency: requires Xaero's Minimap; also adds matching icons for Xaero's World Map
  • Coverage: custom mob icons for 100+ Java content mods, expanding with each update
  • License: all rights reserved, no mirrored download; use the source link

Installing Icon Xaero's

Install Xaero's Minimap or Xaero's World Map first; the icon pack does nothing on its own. Download Icon Xaero's from the source link below, drop the zip into the resourcepacks folder inside your Minecraft directory, and enable it from the vanilla resource pack menu like any other pack. No installer or extra launcher is involved.

Version support and known limits

The newest build, published in March 2026, covers Java releases through 1.21.11, one cycle behind the 26.x year-based versioning Mojang moved to in 2026. The project also claims compatibility back to 1.16.5, so it is not limited to the newest worlds.

Questions about Icon Xaero's.

4 questions

Do I need Xaero's Minimap installed to use Icon Xaero's?

Yes. Icon Xaero's is an add-on, not a standalone pack. The project lists Xaero's Minimap as a required mod, since the resource pack only replaces map icon textures and has nothing to render without that mod already running in your instance.

Does Icon Xaero's work with Xaero's World Map too?

Yes. The pack's own metadata describes it as adding icons to both Xaero's Minimap and Xaero's World Map, so running both mods together shows the same custom icon set on the corner minimap and the full-screen map.

Does Icon Xaero's fix minimap icons not working with MCA Reborn?

Only partly. MCA Reborn villagers get four generic icons, split by gender and by zombie state, instead of one icon per unique character. The creator's changelog explains that MCA Reborn's AI-driven entities make individual icons impractical, and the newest build still ships that same generic set.

Which Minecraft version does Icon Xaero's support?

The current build, published in March 2026, covers Java releases up through 1.21.11, one cycle behind the 26.x year-based versioning introduced in 2026. The project also lists compatibility back to 1.16.5, so older worlds and modpacks are covered as well.
