PlatformJava Edition
Minecraft versions1.0, 1.12.2, 1.13.2, 1.14.4, 1.15.2, 1.16.5, 1.17.1, 1.18.2, 1.19.4, 1.20.4

The MC New Textures resource pack backports modern textures to legacy Minecraft Java releases, following the Jappa style of Jasper "JAPPA" Boerstra. It is a 16x, vanilla-like pack from Seniye that updates textures never refreshed after 1.14. Only the player's own install needs it, and Bedrock is not covered.

Supported versions

  • Minecraft 1.0 to 1.20.4.

What changes visually

The base pack turns old textures into Jappa-styled art, so an older world picks up the look of 1.14 and later. It also re-imagines modern vanilla resources and updates some mod textures. Mod support exists only for 1.7.10 and 1.12.2, and further mods are added only if they have one of those releases. Credits include DTFuel for the Ender IO ingot, tdstress for modern Immersive Engineering items and Rainvay for inspiring the modern bed icon.

Companion packs and OptiFine

The base pack is the first of a series, listed in a recommended loading order from top to bottom. Add-ons cover Blue Water (fixes milky water), Seamless Glass, Mod Addon, Sound, Random Work and Wolfy (a modern wolf plus two special dogs, Bluey and Bingo). Cloudy and an animal, dye and spawn egg add-on are listed as coming soon. Seamless Glass, Random Work and Wolfy require OptiFine, and Mod Addon and the animal add-on partly do. Modern water colour needs OptiFine or Continuity.

The pack has no link to Modernity. Seniye made it before learning that pack existed.

Questions about MC New Textures.

4 questions

How do I install MC New Textures?

Get the zip from Modrinth, open Options, Resource Packs, then Open Pack Folder, and drop the file in. Move the pack to the Selected side of the Resource Packs screen. A pack built for another release still loads but shows an incompatibility warning. Companion packs go below the base pack, following the order the creator lists.

Does MC New Textures need OptiFine?

The newest base release lists no requirements. Much of the extra content does need help, though. Modern water colour wants OptiFine or Continuity, and the Seamless Glass, Random Work and Wolfy add-ons require OptiFine.

Is MC New Textures related to Modernity?

No. Seniye made MC New Textures before learning that Modernity existed, so the two packs share no link.

Is MC New Textures available for Bedrock?

No. The pack is Java only, and Modrinth hosts Java content. Bedrock uses a different pack format, so this download will not load there. Players on Bedrock need a pack built for that format.
