Mob Crates is a 16x, vanilla-like resource pack for Java that replaces spawn eggs with cute mobs sitting in crates. It comes from Futureazoo, in collaboration with NoCube. The mob crates resource pack suits map makers and modpack authors who want a friendlier way to hand mobs to players, and anyone who wants a tidier creative inventory.

Supported versions

  • Minecraft 1.20 to 26.2.

What changes visually

The pack replaces spawn eggs with mobs in crates, so a row of eggs in the creative inventory reads like a shelf of animals.

  • Spawn eggs are replaced with mobs in crates.
  • Resolution is 16x.

How to install Mob Crates

  1. 1.Download the pack .zip from the Modrinth page.
  2. 2.Open Options, then Resource Packs, then Open Pack Folder, and drop the .zip in.
  3. 3.Move Mob Crates to the Selected side of the Resource Packs screen.

The full walkthrough is in our resource pack install guide. No companion mods are required, and the newest release needs nothing else. The pack is loaded by players, and hosting a multiplayer world does not support it, so every player who wants the crates must enable it themselves.

Known limitations

NoCube's original Villagers Sell Animals Mod inspired the concept, and that mod requires Forge. Mob Crates is a separate pack that expands the idea in a vanilla-friendly way and does not itself list any loader requirement.

What does the Mob Crates resource pack do?

It replaces spawn eggs with cute mobs in crates. It works well for creative inventories, adventure maps and modpacks that want a more immersive way to give mobs to players, and it is made for Java at 16x resolution.

Which versions does Mob Crates support?

It covers Java releases from 1.20 to 26.2, and the newest release needs no other files. A pack made for a different release can still load when you select it, but an incompatibility warning appears on the Resource Packs screen.

Not quite. The pack lists Warden, Ender Dragon and Wither as incomplete boss mobs, with the Ender Dragon and Wither being commands only. Snow Golem and Iron Golem, the spawnable golems, are also listed as incomplete.

How do I install Mob Crates?

Place the .zip in the resourcepacks folder, which you can open from Options, then Resource Packs, then Open Pack Folder. Then move Mob Crates to the Selected side of the Resource Packs screen and confirm.
