Supplementaries is the most downloaded of the Minecraft building mods below, Chipped lists over 11,000 building blocks on its own page, and Effortless Building is the one built around placing blocks rather than adding them. All twelve are Java mods taken from our building and decoration listing and ordered by Modrinth downloads inside three groups. Everything else on this topic is in our full list of Java mods.
How we picked these building mods
We started from the 95 Java mods in our decoration category and kept only those whose main subject is building or decorating, which removes shader loaders, animation, chat and HUD mods. Inside three groups (blocks, furniture and decoration, placement tools) we ordered the picks by Modrinth downloads, read on 5 October 2026. Five pages in the category come from other sources and carry no download count, so they are not ranked and not included. We did not benchmark or play-test any of these mods. Downloads favour older projects, and a count is not a score.

More blocks and block variants
Chipped
Chipped
@terrarium-earth · Java Mod
Checked Source and install notes
Pick Chipped when variety is what your builds lack. Its page counts over 11,000 building blocks in a vanilla style, reached through seven crafting tables that turn vanilla blocks into their chipped variants, with connected textures powered by Athena. The trade-off is the dependency list. The newest builds need Resourceful Lib and Athena, and Fabric also needs Fabric API. Its last update is the oldest in this group, so check that a build exists for the game version you play before planning a long project around it.
Diagonal Fences
Diagonal Fences
@Fuzs · Java Mod
Checked Source and install notes
Pick Diagonal Fences if straight-line fences are what spoils a build. It lets fences connect diagonally, and its page says blocks from other mods are supported dynamically, with a block tag to exclude any that misbehave. It does one thing, so treat it as an addition to a block mod, not a replacement for one. It is required on the client and the server, Fabric builds need Fabric API, Puzzles Lib and Forge Config API Port, and its Forge builds have stopped.
Stoneworks
Stoneworks
@Fuzs · Java Mod
Checked Source and install notes
Pick Stoneworks if your builds lean on stone. It adds cobbled variants, bricks, tiles, pillars and shingles for every vanilla stone type, all crafted in the stonecutter, and most of the new blocks can become stairs, slabs and walls. It stays inside stone, so wood, glass and metal get nothing. It shares its author and libraries with Diagonal Fences, so Puzzles Lib is required on Fabric and NeoForge, and its Forge builds stopped in January 2024.
Macaw's Doors
Macaw's Doors
@sketchmacaw · Java Mod
Checked Source and install notes
Pick Macaw's Doors for entrances. Its page describes vanilla-style doors in every wood colour plus shoji, metal, jail and modern designs. It asks for little: Forge and NeoForge builds need no other mod, and Fabric needs only Fabric API. The limit is scope, since it adds doors and nothing else. The same author's furniture mod appears in the next group for interiors.
Conquest Reforged
Conquest Reforged
@JayemCeekay · Java Mod
Checked Source and install notes
Pick Conquest Reforged for historical or fantasy builds at large scale. Its page counts over 18,000 blocks with 32× semi-realistic textures, plus vertical slabs, quarter blocks and layers. It has the longest dependency list here. Its own page tells new players to install a modpack instead, because the standalone mod needs Continuity, Entity Model Features, Entity Texture Features, Polytone and Puzzle, with more by loader. It has no NeoForge build, and no source code is linked.
Furniture and decoration
Supplementaries
Supplementaries
@MehVahdJukaar · Java Mod
Checked Source and install notes
Pick Supplementaries if you want functional decoration, not only furniture. Its Modrinth summary lists jars, signposts, faucets, weather vanes, spring launchers, sconces and planters. It requires Moonlight Lib on its newest builds. Its page calls it mainly a Forge mod and warns that the Fabric version may miss some minor features. It is the most downloaded mod in this article.
Handcrafted
Handcrafted
@Terrarium · Java Mod
Checked Source and install notes
Pick Handcrafted when you want a house to look lived in. Its page counts over 250 furniture pieces, among them chairs, tables, benches and desks, in fantasy, steampunk, medieval or plain vanilla styles. It comes from the creators of Chipped and needs Resourceful Lib on every loader, plus Fabric API on Fabric. The trade-off is Forge. Builds for it stopped in February 2024, while Fabric and NeoForge continued to March 2025.
Cluttered
Cluttered
@beelake · Java Mod
Checked Source and install notes
Pick Cluttered for playful decor with working parts. Its page says hundreds of blocks are craftable in survival, that beds, chairs and storage blocks work, and that a hand drill cycles block variants such as wallpaper. It needs no other mod. The warning is on its own page: version 3.0 is a rewrite with a new mod ID, and items stored in older Cluttered blocks disappear when you update, so back up first. Fabric builds stopped in 2023.
Macaw's Furniture
Macaw's Furniture
@sketchmacaw · Java Mod
Checked Source and install notes
Pick Macaw's Furniture for wardrobes, drawers, chairs, desks, couches, sinks and tables that you can stack or merge into wider or taller pieces, as its page describes. Forge and NeoForge builds need no other mod, and Fabric needs Fabric API. The trade-off is openness. No source repository is linked, and Modrinth lists the licence as All Rights Reserved, so check the terms before putting it in a modpack of your own.
Immersive Paintings
Immersive Paintings
@Luke100000 · Java Mod
Checked Source and install notes
Pick Immersive Paintings if you want your own art on walls. Its page says you can create paintings by drag and drop, screenshot or URL, pixelate them in a menu, and choose frames, including a glowing paint and a graffiti spray. The newest builds require Fzzy Config, and Fabric also needs Fabric API. Server owners should read the config, because the mod transfers and stores images and its page offers limits and bandwidth throttling.
Tools that place or copy blocks faster
Effortless Building
Effortless Building
@Requios · Java Mod
Checked Source and install notes
Pick Effortless Building if the chore is placing, not designing. Its page lists mirrors, arrays, build modes such as line, wall, cube, circle and sphere, a randomizer bag, and undo and redo, all supported in survival with the right number of blocks consumed. It needs no other mod. The catch is that it must be installed on both client and server, because the server part places blocks in bulk.
BuildPaste
BuildPaste
@mistrx14 · Java Mod
Checked Source and install notes
Pick BuildPaste if you would rather paste a finished structure than design one. Its Modrinth summary promises 10,000+ instant structures, pasted with a /paste command or a Build Placer item, and its page says you can upload your own. Builds live on buildpaste.net, so you depend on that site. Its page also says the mod is only available for singleplayer. For schematic files you manage yourself, see How to Use Minecraft Schematics.
Which kind of building mod to start with
Start with the job. If your builds look repetitive, take a block mod, such as Chipped for breadth or Stoneworks for depth in stone. If rooms feel empty, Handcrafted and Macaw's Furniture are furniture-first, while Supplementaries adds working decoration. If placement is the chore, Effortless Building suits survival and servers, and BuildPaste suits solo worlds. The deciding facts are the loader and game version you already play, which the table shows per project. Fabric vs Forge vs NeoForge explains that choice.
We left out many building and decoration pages. Every Java mod we list holds the rest.
Installing and updating building mods
Each mod needs the loader its build was made for, installed for the same game version, with its required libraries beside it in the mods folder. How to Install Minecraft Mods on Java Edition covers the steps.
