These twelve Minecraft data packs for Java do three jobs: reshape terrain, add structures, or make small vanilla-style tweaks. By Modrinth downloads read on 5 October 2026, Terralith leads the world generation group, Dungeons and Taverns leads the structure group, and VeinMiner leads the tweak group by a wide margin. All of them are in our data packs listing, which holds the 21 others we left out of this page.
How we picked these data packs
We chose from the 33 Java data packs we list, sorted by Modrinth downloads read on 5 October 2026. We took up to four from each of three groups and skipped packs that fit none, such as cosmetic or boss-fight overhauls. A few packs with higher counts are not featured here; the listing has every one. We did not benchmark or play-test any of them. Downloads favour older projects, and a count is not a score.

World generation data packs
Each of these four lists its data pack file as needing no dependency. Pick by dimension, then check the compatibility notes, because world generation packs rarely stack.
Terralith
Terralith
@Apollo · Data Pack
Checked Source and install notes
Pick Terralith if you want the overworld to look different from the first chunk. Its creator's page counts over 95 new biomes plus reworked vanilla ones, with canyons, floating islands and deep ocean trenches, all built from vanilla blocks. The trade-off is commitment. The creator says you cannot remove it from an existing world and advises starting a new one, and adds that biome-adding data packs are typically not compatible. Its Fabric and NeoForge mod releases need Lithostitched; the data pack does not.
Incendium
Incendium
@catter1 / Stardust Labs · Data Pack
Checked Source and install notes
Incendium is for players who want a rebuilt Nether with things to fight. Its creator lists 8 new biomes, 9+ structures, over 25 items and a summonable boss, the Hovering Inferno. Two limits matter. It is not compatible with Amplified Nether, and it belongs in a new Nether, not an existing one. Its newest file, 5.5.3 for 26.3, sits on Modrinth's alpha channel, so it is not marked as a stable release.
Nullscape
Nullscape
@Stardust Labs · Data Pack
Checked Source and install notes
Nullscape suits players who want the End to feel empty and strange. Per its creator, it raises End height to 384 blocks and generates shattered islands, floating valleys and crystallized peaks. The trade-off is narrow compatibility: the creator says it is not compatible with the majority of End world generation projects, with Better End as the named exception, and it needs a fresh End.
Amplified Nether
Amplified Nether
@catter1 / Stardust Labs · Data Pack
Checked Source and install notes
This is the plainest of the four. It lifts the Nether to 256 blocks tall with 3D biomes, and its creator says it adds no new biomes, items, mobs or structures. That makes it the choice for vanilla Nether content on bigger terrain. The limit is the pairing. It is not compatible with Incendium, so choose one of them for a given Nether, and start from a new one.
New structure data packs
Structure packs add places to find without redrawing the map. All four list a server-side requirement on Modrinth and none lists a dependency for its data pack file.
Dungeons and Taverns
Dungeons and Taverns
@NovaWostra · Data Pack
Checked Source and install notes
Choose Dungeons and Taverns for vanilla-like structures, from fire watch towers and taverns to a badland miner outpost and an illager hideout. Its creator also lists new enchantments that only appear as structure loot. Trade-offs: Modrinth lists it as all rights reserved and it links no source code. The creator warns that a fake site posing as the project's own hosts malware, and names only its Modrinth and CurseForge pages and a Discord server as genuine.
Explorify
Explorify
@bebebea_loste · Data Pack
Checked Source and install notes
Explorify is a light touch: a simple set of structures meant to feel interesting yet familiar, in its creator's words. The caution is stability. The creator says it is still in development and may drop structures between releases. It is also the only structure pack here whose newest listed support is 26.2, last updated 13 May 2026. The creator says updating will not corrupt a world but still advises backups.
Structory
Structory
@catter1 · Data Pack
Checked Source and install notes
Structory is for players who like structures with a story: ruins, towers, cottages, graveyards, settlements and boats, expanded in seasonal updates with light lore. Its creator says it works with most world generation and structure data packs, naming Terralith, and can be added to an existing world, though structures only generate in new chunks. The limit is scope. It adds structures only, so terrain stays as it is unless you pair it with a terrain pack.
Tidal Towns
Tidal Towns
@joshieman · Data Pack
Checked Source and install notes
Tidal Towns does one thing: ocean villages that float in deep ocean, with maps, farms, houses and a blacksmith. It suits shared worlds, since the creator says the structure uses vanilla blocks, so players on a plain install can still join. The trade-off is range. It is one structure type, Modrinth lists it as all rights reserved, and no source repository is linked. The creator points to /locate structure joshie:ocean_village for finding one.
Small vanilla-style tweak data packs
These change one mechanic each and leave terrain alone.
VeinMiner
VeinMiner
@Miraculixx · Data Pack
Checked Source and install notes
Mine one ore and the whole vein breaks. Its 89.8 million Modrinth downloads are the highest of the 33 data packs we list, but the project also ships a mod and plugin, so that figure is not data pack only. The data pack is the light 1.x line. The configurable 2.x line is a mod or plugin for Fabric, Quilt, NeoForge, Paper, Purpur or Folia. Its Forge, Bukkit and Spigot releases stopped in November 2023.
Armor Stand Arms
Armor Stand Arms
@Jodek · Data Pack
Checked Source and install notes
Armor stands get arms the moment they are placed, which helps builders who make displays. From 1.21, shift and right click shows or hides the arms, and from 1.21.6 a trigger command opens settings. The limit is that it does exactly one thing, and releases before 1.21 use separate trigger commands to remove arms from a single stand.
All Mob Heads
All Mob Heads
@mldeg · Data Pack
Checked Source and install notes
Every mob can drop its head, except that zombie, skeleton and creeper heads stay unchanged and still need a charged creeper. It adds collection advancements and rename tricks, such as renaming a Vindicator "illusioner" to summon an Illusioner. One named limit: its creator says the zombie horse rename trick does not work in 1.21.11. Modrinth lists the pack as all rights reserved.
Graves Datapack
Graves Datapack
@lullaby · Data Pack
Checked Source and install notes
On death, your loot goes into a grave instead of scattering. The page lists options for despawn time, glowing, experience and protection from lava, water and void, and it is AGPL-3.0-or-later with the licence file in its repository. Limits: the page says Keep Inventory is set to true for it to work, and that it is not compatible with curios or accessories. Its newest file lists support up to 26.2.
How to choose and add a data pack
Decide what you want changed first. For terrain, take Terralith for the overworld, Incendium or Amplified Nether for the Nether (not both), and Nullscape for the End. For structures, Structory is the one whose creator says it combines with other world generation packs. For tweaks, match the single mechanic you want.
A data pack goes into a world and needs no mod loader, so the steps are in our data pack install guide. For a hosted world see adding data packs on a server, and if one does not appear, read why data packs are not showing. Everything we left out is in the full data pack listing.
