These are the twelve most downloaded structure mods among the Java world generation pages we list, sorted by Modrinth downloads. YUNG's Better Nether Fortresses leads with 23,146,162 downloads and suits players who want vanilla structures rebuilt larger. Towns and Towers adds new villages, pillager outposts and ships. Repurposed Structures - Fabric is the one its own page says can run on the server alone with vanilla players still connecting. Nine of the twelve come from one studio and share one library. Everything else on this topic sits in every Java mod page we list.
How we picked these structure mods
We started from the 73 Java world generation mods we list, 70 of which carry a Modrinth download count read on 9 October 2026. We sorted by that count and kept the first twelve that add or rework structures. We skipped libraries and loaders (YUNG's API, Lithostitched, Cristel Lib, TerraBlender), biome and terrain mods, YUNG's Better End Island (an island rework, not a structure) and The Lost Cities (a whole city world style). We did not benchmark or play-test any of them. Downloads favour older projects, and a count is not a score.
What a structure mod changes in world generation
A structure mod changes what generates on top of the terrain, not the terrain itself. Some replace a vanilla structure: YUNG's Better Witch Huts stops vanilla huts spawning by default, and you can switch them back on in its config. Others only add: Towns and Towers says it does not modify existing vanilla structures. Repurposed Structures adds variants of vanilla ones and is tuned through a data pack on recent releases. For how mods and data packs differ here, see our world generation explainer.

The twelve picks in download order
YUNG's Better Nether Fortresses
YUNG's Better Nether Fortresses
@YUNGNICKYOUNG · Java Mod
Checked Source and install notes
Pick this if you want Nether fortresses rebuilt in three parts: bridge networks, the Keep and Lava Halls that run deep underground. Its page calls them much larger and more complex than vanilla. If Create is installed, parts of a fortress can spawn from Create pieces, an optional feature its page limits to 1.19.2 and later. The trade-off is that its Forge releases stopped, and the mod is required on the server.
YUNG's Better Dungeons
YUNG's Better Dungeons
@Acarii · Java Mod
Checked Source and install notes
This one redesigns vanilla dungeons and adds three new ones: Catacombs, Fortresses of the Undead and Spider Caves. Small Nether dungeons exist too, but they are opt-in and you must enable them in the config. It suits players who want underground rooms to be worth finding. The trade-off is the same as its siblings: Forge releases stopped, and Fabric needs Cloth Config API and Fabric API next to YUNG's API.
YUNG's Better Ocean Monuments
YUNG's Better Ocean Monuments
@TeraBuildsStuff · Java Mod
Checked Source and install notes
For players who want ocean monuments to be a real expedition. Its page says they are much larger than vanilla with fully randomized layouts, and that loot includes Tridents and a Heart of the Sea. Repurposed Structures also offers a data pack that adds repurposed versions of these monuments. It changes one structure only, and Forge players are left on releases that stopped.
YUNG's Better Mineshafts
YUNG's Better Mineshafts
@YUNGNICKYOUNG · Java Mod
Checked Source and install notes
This turns abandoned mineshafts from straight lines into webs of tunnels. Its page lists 13 biome variants, including a rare mushroom mineshaft, plus workstation cellars, ore deposits at tunnel ends, miners' outposts and very rare surface openings. A good fit for cave-heavy survival worlds. As with the others, it is required on the server, and its Forge releases stopped.
YUNG's Better Jungle Temples
YUNG's Better Jungle Temples
@YUNGNICKYOUNG · Java Mod
Checked Source and install notes
A ground-up redesign of the jungle temple with new traps, puzzles and loot, according to its page. Parts of the temple can spawn special pieces if Create or Supplementaries is installed, and neither is required. Choose it when you already run Fabric or NeoForge and want one temple done thoroughly. The limit is narrow scope, since it touches one structure, and stopped Forge releases.
YUNG's Better Strongholds
YUNG's Better Strongholds
@YUNGNICKYOUNG · Java Mod
Checked Source and install notes
Its page promises over 15 rooms, varied tunnels, staircases, traps and hidden areas while staying close to vanilla themes. With Repurposed Structures strongholds enabled, Eyes of Ender locate whichever stronghold is closest, whether it comes from either mod. The trade-off is that the Forge line stopped, and Fabric needs Cloth Config API as well as YUNG's API.
Towns and Towers
Towns and Towers
@Biban_Auriu · Java Mod
Checked Source and install notes
The pick for new settlements: villages, pillager outposts and ships, over 50 structures as of its update 1.9 according to its page. It only adds structures, and they appear in newly generated chunks. Client is optional and the server is required. Newer releases need Cristel Lib, and Forge releases stopped. The platform lists CC-BY-NC-SA-4.0, but the mod links no source code, so we found no licence file.
YUNG's Better Witch Huts
YUNG's Better Witch Huts
@YUNGNICKYOUNG · Java Mod
Checked Source and install notes
This adds several hut variants and a witch's circle to swamps, with brewing stands that may hold items hinting at vanilla potion recipes. By default vanilla huts no longer spawn, which matters if you want both; the config can bring them back. It is the narrowest pick here, one structure type in one biome, and its Forge releases stopped.
YUNG's Better Desert Temples
YUNG's Better Desert Temples
@TeraBuildsStuff · Java Mod
Checked Source and install notes
It adds puzzles, traps and parkour challenges to desert temples. Read the config note first: mining fatigue applies to all players in the temple until the pharaoh at the end is killed, and the config can switch that off or let vanilla temples spawn alongside. It suits players who want a deliberate challenge. The cost is that effect by default, plus stopped Forge releases.
YUNG's Bridges
YUNG's Bridges
@YUNGNICKYOUNG · Java Mod
Checked Source and install notes
The mod behind naturally generated bridges, with over 15 types and biome-specific variants according to its page. It fits worlds with many rivers and ravines. Its page warns that Terralith gives rivers steeper banks, so bridges may still spawn but rarely, and suggests higher spawn rates. It has the oldest last update of the YUNG's group, and Forge releases stopped.
Repurposed Structures - Fabric
Repurposed Structures - Fabric
@TelepathicGrunt · Java Mod
Checked Source and install notes
Choose this for more variants of vanilla structures, such as a Jungle Fortress, from TelepathicGrunt. Its page says it adds no blocks or mobs, so it can run entirely on the server with vanilla players connecting, and that most structures are tuned by data pack on 1.18.2 and later. This page covers Fabric only, needing Fabric API and MidnightLib on recent releases; Quilt releases stopped. It links no source repository.
When Dungeons Arise
When Dungeons Arise
@aureljz · Java Mod
Checked Source and install notes
This is a dungeon generator, 30+ unique structures per its page, including palaces and hostile airships, aimed at roguelike-style raids. It is the only pick with current Fabric, NeoForge and Forge releases, but its last update, 26 October 2025, is the oldest here and stops at 1.21.1 for Fabric and NeoForge. Its page says Fabric needs Cloth Config API and Fabric API. The platform lists all rights reserved.
What to check before adding one to a world
Match three things first: loader, Minecraft release and dependencies. Every YUNG's pick needs YUNG's API, and the Fabric releases add Cloth Config API and Fabric API. The nine YUNG's mods carry LGPL-3.0 licence files in their repositories. Modrinth lists all twelve picks as required on the server. Our mod install guide covers the file steps.
How to choose between them
Pick by loader and by what you want rebuilt. On Fabric or NeoForge with a recent release, the YUNG's group covers the most vanilla structures with one shared library. For settlements and ships, Towns and Towers; for vanilla variants through data packs, Repurposed Structures; for older worlds on Forge, When Dungeons Arise. Their pages say they are meant to coexist with other world generation mods, but we did not test that.
Terrain comes from biome mods, which we cover separately in our biome and terrain mod roundup and Terralith vs Biomes O' Plenty vs Tectonic. Towns and Towers lists Terralith and BoP among compatible mods.
